Assessing the Positions in Keeper and Dynasty Leagues

Bobby McMann, Staff Writer February 15, 2017
Keeper and dynasty leagues are basically seasonal formats on performance enhancing drugs. Not only do you have to be concerned with how your team is playing and competing this season, but you also need to be mindful of the future. Not too mindful of course, or you’ll get stuck in perpetual rebuilding mode. Therein lies the long-term league challenge – staying in contention while building for the future. What better way to talk about keeper and dynasty strategies than to discuss how to attack each position.

The Catcher position is a young man’s game right now with a number of emerging Fantasy relevant backstops. That does not mean you are out of luck if you don’t own one of them, though. While Jonathan Lucroy, Buster Posey and Brian McCann are all on the wrong side of 30, they remain plenty productive. You can even get away with Russell Martin as your starting catcher for the next couple years. It is not necessary to spend early draft picks on the position but locking up a consistent player will give you one less position to worry about.
