Last season saw a dramatic shift occur among second basemen. As I wrote last year, the players at the position seemed poised to provide a power burst a few seasons ago, but 2015 was a very low production season among the players at the keystone. Power spike anyone? You can clearly see above that the most consistent stats out of the 2B position are stolen bases and batting average, though the four players who swiped 20 bags last year all exceeded 30. So, there are two tiers of 2B speed – the reliable four (Jean Segura, Trea Turner, Jose Altuve, and Dee Gordon) and 10 others who stole between 10 and 19 bases, which is not a reliable bet for a repeat.
