XCLUSIVE EDGE: BEARS-PACKERS PREVIEW

Scott Engel Managing Director September 13, 2012 2:41PM EDT
The running game looked great for the Bears in their opener, and will be a big key again in their second game, as controlling the ball and keeping the Green Bay offense off the field as much as possible will be a primary objective. Matt Forte is a must-start, of course. Michael Bush is a strong flex play again. The Bears will move the ball crisply against a vulnerable Packers defense, putting Bush in position for at least one score. Jay Cutler will take quick drops and make quick strikes against the Packers secondary, and he is a top QB start for Week 2. Brandon Marshall is set for another big week, but Earl Bennett may only be good for some minor PPR contributions. The evolution of Alshon Jeffery will continue, and he is a strong bet to score again.

You must take note any time a player faces his former team, and Cedric Benson should post decent rushing yardage totals with a TD. Avoid the Greg Jennings situation, and expect Jordy Nelson to play a much larger role in the offense this week. Don’t use James Jones over a more established starter, as consistency has long been an issue for him, and stepping forward into a starting role would not ensure more success. Randall Cobb is a nice play at flex, but some RBs may be better options for more guaranteed touches.

START AND SMILE: Jay Cutler, Cedric Benson
