German Marquez Latest Rockies Hurler Available on Waiver Wire

Brandon C. Williams Staff Writer May 19, 2017
While rookie call-ups like Ian Happ and Bradley Zimmer climbed out of my waiver wire barrier, this week still offers a host of quality talent squared away in most leagues while quietly producing in a bid to find a warm spot on your roster.

German Marquez, P, Rockies: Need a clear sign of an unstable world? Try the fact that Rockies pitchers have become valuable Fantasy assets. Sure, there was a Marvin Freeman or Ubaldo Jimenez here and there, but Marquez joins Antonio Senzatela and Kyle Freeland in a surprising Colorado rotation that will get ace Jon Gray back in mid-June with top pitching prospect Jeff Hoffman due back at some point. Marquez, owned in 26 percent of CBSSports.com leagues, has recorded a pair of eight-K starts over his last three outings while whittling his ERA from 18.00 to 4.88. What also makes Marquez appealing is that his HR/9 rate was standing at 0.62 after he won his second game of the season at the Twins on Thursday. Any pitcher with his kind of stuff that can also keep the ball in the park at Coors Field is going to grab attention, so I’d consider Marquez in deeper leagues. He’s no longer a secret in most NL-only formats and is also gaining traction in keeper/dynasty formats considering he’s only 22.
