Start Browns’ Josh Gordon, Sit Panthers’ Cam Newton for Week 14

Start’em

Quarterbacks

Philip Rivers vs. Washington Redskins: In Fantasy, you always like to ride the hot hand. Philip Rivers is just that entering his Week 14 matchup. With at least 340 yards passing in each of the last two games, I expect to see that trend continue against a Redskins’ secondary that has been reeling over the last month. Look for Rivers to again give you more than 300 yards and two scores in this game, easily putting him into the QB1 range this week.

Eli Manning vs. Dallas Cowboys: This is just a gut feeling here, but with Ben McAdoo gone and Manning back as the starter, look for this Giants team to play over their heads this week against the Cowboys. Manning typically saves his better days for when he’s up against the Cowboys’ defense. So, I expect him to come out with guns blazing to throw for 300-plus yards and possibly two scores. If you stream at the position and need a QB in the first week of the playoffs, give Manning a chance.

Running Backs

Kenyan Drake vs. New England Patriots: Last week, Kenyan Drake showed just what he is capable of when given a majority of the touches in the backfield. This week against the Patriots, I expect Drake to give you more value as a PPR back with the Dolphins playing from behind. He should total more than 100 yards to go along with a touchdown and will be a viable RB2 for the playoffs.

Duke Johnson Jr. vs. Green Bay Packers: Duke Johnson has been held in check for the last couple of weeks, but look for that to change with this matchup against the Packers. Green Bay is one of the league’s worst in terms of points allowed to pass-catching running backs, which will bode well for Johnson. His upside will fit nicely into the Flex position in your Week 14 lineups.

Wide Receivers

Josh Gordon vs. Green Bay Packers: Welcome back, Josh Gordon! If last week’s performance is any indication of what’s to come, then watch out! Even the subpar play from DeShone Kizer, Gordon should be able to take advantage of a very weak Packers secondary and find his way into the end zone. You took a chance on him off the Waiver Wire for the playoffs. Now, get him into your lineup with confidence.

Michael Crabtree @ Kansas City Chiefs: After serving his one-game suspension, Crabtree returns to the Raiders lineup to find that Marcus Peters will not be playing for the Chiefs in Week 14. Good news for Fantasy owners, as he should provide quality WR2 numbers in this matchup with five catches for 85 yards and a score.

Tight End

Jason Witten @ New York Giants: For one, this is a matchup against the Giants, and we all know how easily they allow points to opposing tight ends. But secondly, Jason Witten has historically played well in these matchups. He often tends to be the primary option in the passing game, which could be the case this week. He will undoubtedly provide you with TE1 numbers for Week 14, and he’s a no-brainer start.

Kicker

Robbie Gould @ Houston Texans: After beating his former team a week ago and being named special teams player of the week, Robbie Gould could again be in store for a solid afternoon in Week 14. Jimmy Garoppolo seemed to have this offense moving well by the end of last week’s game, and he could do so again against a weak Texans defense. This should give Gould a few opportunities to score.

Defense

Arizona Cardinals vs. Tennessee Titans: This Titans offense is not hitting on all cylinders, and this game has all the makings of being a low-scoring affair. I expect Arizona to get after Mariota and cause a few mistakes, making this defense a streaming option in Week 14.

Sit’em

Quarterbacks

Kirk Cousins @ Los Angeles Chargers: Kirk Cousins has been taking advantage of cupcake matchups over the last several weeks, but that will not be the case against a stout Chargers secondary. If you have another option to work with this week, I would probably go that route.

Cam Newton vs. Minnesota Vikings: Cam Newton has finished with less than 200 yards passing in four out his last five games, with only six scores over that span. Four touchdowns came in one game alone. With this being a win or go home week in most Fantasy playoffs, are you willing to take the risk with Newton in your lineup against a tough Vikings defense? I’d rather look elsewhere.

Running Backs

Kareem Hunt vs. Oakland Raiders: A similar case can be made for Kareem Hunt as we enter the Fantasy playoffs. Will you continue to put him into your lineup based on early season success, or will you play it smart and see that his usage is just too risky when it’s all on the line? He’s been held under 100 yards rushing since Week 5, and has gone scoreless since that week as well. I hate to say it, but he’s bench fodder as things currently stand.

DeMarco Murray @ Arizona Cardinals: It’s a similar scenario with DeMarco Murray. He is pretty much useless at this point in all formats if you are looking for a player to add up the yardage. He’s touchdown dependent, and if you are playing that risk in the playoffs, you will likely lose. If you drafted Murray as your RB1, and are this far into the season, you likely have other options to pivot towards this week anyway.

Wide Receivers

Demaryius Thomas vs. New York Jets: Thomas is another highly-drafted player that hasn’t returned value in 2017. He will consistently give you four to five catches in a given week, but with low yardage totals and no scoring upside. With Trevor Siemien at QB, you can’t be excited about Thomas’ value heading into this Week 14 matchup. For me, he is no more than a WR3 this week, and if I have better options, I would entertain them.

Josh Doctson @ Los Angeles Chargers: Josh Doctson has scored in two straight games, but with a combined catch total of five over that span. A touchdown-dependent player, matched up against Casey Hayward? That spells a very difficult week to play Doctson. Let him find a spot on your bench in Week 14.

Tight End

Charles Clay vs. Indianapolis Colts: Charles Clay is trying to play through a banged up knee, and will likely be seeing passes coming from Nathan Peterman again in Week 14. This all adds up to a player that could give you only a catch or two. Surely you can find a better option this week in what has been a crapshoot of a position all year.

Kicker

Graham Gano vs. Minnesota Vikings: Gano has been steady for most of the year but this week against the Vikings, his chances to score could be minimal. Head to the Waiver Wire and find a replacement for Week 14.

Defense

Green Bay Packers @ Cleveland Browns: Conventional wisdom says that you play the defense that is against the Browns. But I would shy against doing that this week. Cleveland looked more lively with Gordon back on the field, and I could see them being hard for the Packers to stop this week. Look elsewhere.
