NFL Week 12 / 100th Grey Cup; What to Watch For

Mike Cardano, Senior Fantasy Analyst November 25, 2012

So you woke up this morning looking at the NFL schedule trying to figure out what the best NFL matchups of the day would be. With three games on Thanksgiving, that left only 12 games today’s schedule with San Francisco at New Orleans and Green Bay visiting the New York Giants seemingly the most intriguing. A word of note to the uber football fan who just can’t get enough of the pigskin game; while the NFL is in Week 12 and teams are fighting for playoff spots / seeding, the CFL (Canadian Football League) is holding its championship game.

The CFL is holding the 100th Grey Cup today (that’s their Super Bowl). It’s the Western Division champion Calgary Stampeders vs. the Eastern Division champion Toronto Argonauts at the Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario. It’s a matchup of two teams squaring off against each other in the Grey Cup for the third time since 1971 with each team winning once.

Wagering

The Stampeders are a two-point favorite over the Argonauts, up a half-point from earlier in the week. The over-under is also up a half-point, sitting at an even 55.

Calgary quarterback Kevin Glenn is the early favorite to win the Grey Cup MVP award. He’s listed as a 9/4 in most houses, slightly ahead of Toronto pivot Ricky Ray (11/4), Stampeders running back Jon Cornish (7/2) and Argonauts running back Chad Kackert (9/2). Toronto receivers Jason Barnes, Dontrelle Inman and Maurice Mann are all 50-1 longshots for the MVP honor. The same odds apply for Calgary receivers Maurice Price, Romby Bryant and Jabari Arthur. The rest of the field is listed at 10-1. Cornish (-130) is listed as a slight favorite to record more rushing yards than Kackert (even) while Ray (-130) is favored to record more TD passes than Glenn (even).

Calgary will be looking to claim its seventh Grey Cup overall and second in the last five years, while Toronto is aiming for No. 16 and its first since 2004.
