For those of you who come here each day to find my opinions on the wacky world of sports, I want to apologize. With the paralyzing events that have transpired in Newtown, CT, resulting in the loss of 26 precious lives, I’m not in any mood to congratulate, complain about or make fun of anyone in the world of sports today. Putting things into perspective, sports are simply a pretty insignificant thing to me today.
24 hours after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting incident, the thought of any one of those children having met the fate they did still makes me like throwing up. Magnify that by 20 times and I’m physically sick this morning, literally. As if that weren’t bad enough, the thought of adult educators having perished while trying to educate and protect these innocent children is itself, something to be sick over.
I didn’t know any of the adults or children who perished on Friday, but I had a very hard time getting out of bed today. Yesterday as the news was being disseminated and I attempted to digest the magnitude of what had happened, I was wide eye’d and horrified. Today I’m not embarrassed to say that I cried. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll be angry and want to vent and start blaming people, places and things – but today I’m just sad.
This world we live in can certainly be a very cruel place…
