If you weren’t paying close attention, amidst all the Super Bowl XLVII coverage last Wednesday, you may have missed the fact that EA SPORTS announced they will be launching the next installment of Madden on August 27, 2013. The calendar year in the name of the new edition is being ditched, opting instead to call attention to the series’ 25th anniversary. ‘Madden NFL 25’ will be the title of the new game and fans will once again be able to vote on the cover athlete starting March 11.
If you are looking for info on any cool new features that will be in the game, you’re out of luck, at least for now. For the time being, the name change and release date are all EA is putting forward in terms of concrete info. The company is not releasing any more info about how the game plays and how it will celebrate its heritage through various features at this time. Those items are being saved for promotional opportunities.
Rumors that Leon Sandcastle will be a part of the game are making the rounds this morning after the NFL Network’s popular Super Bowl commercial aired during yesterday’s game.
Another popular rumor swirling centers around a social game within the sports game. Those who play would be able to control players off the field, interacting in social situations, giving a whole new dimension to the game attracting a total different segment of gamers. This new feature would be able to give the gamer control of players driving their cars and in nightclubs, etc. Engaging in detrimental conduct, while perhaps fun to interact with, would hamper the athlete’s performance traits on the field. As you might expect, when contacted, EA offered no comment.
While adding a SIMS feature would be one hell of an idea, no doubt attracting millions of new purchasers of the Madden game, I find it hard to believe that EA would go down the road of creating such a feature as the game is marketed heavily to children. If there were to do something like this at all, in order to not hurt the brand, EA would have to put out a separate R18 + product. And if the rumor is totally untrue, hey I just gave someone an idea to make millions…
Beings able to actually smell the Deer Antler Spray would be cool, but I don’t think that one is going to happen. However, having Manti Te’o’s imaginary fake dead girlfriend as part of the SIMS feature, that would be cool…
