Look at some of the top players this week and note that they are the same consistent players that got you to the Championship game and then gave you a title. If you’ve been following along with the Quality Game Scores this season and it helped you in bringing home a title please email me (blung@rotoexperts.com) and let me know. I always enjoy knowing that Quality Game Scores is bringing home titles to someone other than me. If this is your Championship week, then follow the same path that brought you here. Consistent Players. I hope everyone has a Blessed New Year and I look forward to helping you dominate again in 2012.

Consistency. Any educated Fantasy owner knows that you need your Fantasy Football players to be not only good, but also consistently good! It’s a proven fact that the more consistent your Fantasy players are throughout the season, the better the chance you’ll win. More wins equals playoffs, and playoffs can turn into championships! That’s why I’ll be here each week to help you identify the most consistent Fantasy Football players this season in your quest for a Fantasy championship.
Here is a quick recap for those unfamiliar with the Quality Game Scores. The Quality Game Score is the awarding of a Quality Game to a player each week when they exceed the average points scored in your league for that position. The more Quality Games a player is awarded each year, the more consistent that player is and the more beneficial they are to your Fantasy team.
The scoring method used will be one point per 20 yards passing and four points for passing touchdowns; one point per 10 yards rushing and receiving; one point per reception; and six points for any rushing/receiving touchdown.
So, let’s begin the review…
Quarterbacks – (Quality Game Factor – 17.44)
Quality Game Earners – Week 16
|
THE EXPECTED
The Top Five most consistent quarterbacks for the season were the Top Five highest scoring quarterbacks this week. Coincidence? Nope. These players got you to the championship game and did their best to earn you a title. Cam Newton is the biggest surprise by far but Matthew Stafford staying healthy all season is pretty huge too. Drew Brees breaks Dan Marino’s 23-year-old record for passing yards and yet still trails Aaron Rodgers in Fantasy points.
THE UNEXPECTED
Matt Moore has been a decent surprise in the second half of the 2011 season. He only has a 50 percent Quality Success Rate (QSR), but he earned those six over the last eight weeks. He could be a decent sleeper for next season. John Skelton continues to cause a quarterback controversy in Arizona as his QSR for the season is 71 percent and Kevin Kolb’s QSR is only 44 percent. Josh McCown was semi-retired and now has his first Quality Game of 2011.
Here is a group of those bad surprises, quarterbacks who didn’t earn a Quality Game this week. Eli Manning failed his Fantasy owners for the second straight week.

One week to go and a perfect quarterback season is still in reach. Next week, both Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have a shot at it. Cam Newton could lose his third place ranking in overall points, as Brady is only four points behind. Check out the gap between fourth place and sixth place in total points. Yep, that’s right. A total of 86 points! The most disappointing quarterbacks lie in the 67 percent to 71 percent QSR. The foursome of Tony Romo, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning and Michael Vick have hurt a number of Fantasy teams with poor play and injuries.
Running Backs – (Quality Game Factor – 10.58)
Quality Game Earners – Week 16
|
THE EXPECTED
Ray Rice came up big this week and took over the No. 1 spot in total points and consistency. Other consistent names like Maurice Jones-Drew, Steven Jackson, Darren Sproles and Frank Gore all earned Quality Games for their Fantasy owners’ championship game. These consistent players were on almost all of my teams. Some of the inconsistent players who let their Fantasy teams down were players like Chris Johnson, Ryan Mathews, Cedric Benson and Beanie Wells.
THE UNEXPECTED
C.J. Spiller may turn the Bills into a running powerhouse next season with him and Fred Jackson. Spiller earned three Quality Games out of his last four games. Kevin Smith looked healthy again and earned another Quality Game. He will make things tough for Jahvid Best next season. In what seems like the 27th running back in the Redskins system for this season, Evan Royster earned a Quality Game this week. Royster busted off 16.70 points in a PPR format and is just another back to keep in your mind next season or you can just ignore the Redskins carousel all together.
Below is a list of some of the top running backs that did not earn a Quality Game this week. As I mentioned above, some big names hurt their Fantasy owners this week. LeSean McCoy’s bad week was injury related, but a killer just the same.

Consistency Leaders – YTD – Running Backs
|
McCoy’s injury knocked off his perfect season and now has put Ray Rice at the top of the list. Please note that MJD has also moved into a tie for first place in consistency. Of course, percentage-wise, Fred Jackson is still “perfect,” but I left him down in the ten Quality Games earned to reflect his overall season a little better. Just to see if you’re awake, note that only three backs have over 300 Fantasy points, Rice and McCoy are two of them. The other is Arian Foster who missed two games. His average Fantasy points per game is higher than Rice and McCoy. Remember this next year when you have the No. 1 pick, Foster is still the man.
Wide Receiver – (Quality Game Factor – 11.05)
Quality Game Earners – Week 16
|
THE EXPECTED
As expected, the Falcons’ dynamic duo of Roddy White and Julio Jones combined for over 52 Fantasy points and both earned Quality Games versus the Saints on Monday Night. Victor Cruz earned most of his points on one play this past weekend but nonetheless he’s still one of the most consistent receivers for the year. Larry Fitzgerald continues to prove that it doesn’t matter who the quarterback is, he’ll earn Fantasy points and Quality Games. He’s ranked fifth for the season and has an above average 67 percent QSR.
THE UNEXPECTED
Michael Crabtree could be a nice WR3 sleeper next season as he ended the season with five Quality Games out of his last six. Demaryius Thomas has earned four straight Quality Games and looks to be a favorite of Tim Tebow’s. Malcom Floyd earned his third Quality Game out of his last four and will always be a good pickup as long as he plays for San Diego.
Here is the list of top wide receivers that didn’t earn a Quality Game this week. There are a ton of big names on the bad list this week.

Consistency Leaders – YTD – Wide Receivers
|
As we head to the last week of the season, the Mr. Consistency award at wide receiver is at an awkward spot. The leader in overall points is Wes Welker, however his QSR for the season is only 73 percent, while Calvin Johnson is ranked second overall and has a 93 percent QSR. Yeah, logic says Johnson, but if he doesn’t earn a Quality Game in Week 17, it’s going to be a tough vote. Roddy White may be 52 points behind Calvin in second place, but his consistency has earned him stud status in my book. Steve Johnson was supposed to possibly sit out due to a groin injury, but his toughness keeps his consistency high as he earned his 11th Quality Game of the season.
Tight Ends – (Quality Game Factor – 8.87)
Quality Game Earners – Week 16
|
THE EXPECTED
Stop the presses! There’s a non-Patriot tight end at the top of the list this week. This is un-American! Jared Cook followed up his big week last week with an even bigger week this week as he scored over 30 Fantasy points. Right behind him was Brandon Pettigrew, whose consistency has been average, but who has earned three straight Quality Games. Rob Gronkowski did earn a Quality Game this week, however Aaron Hernandez did not. Brent Celek kept up his hot streak as well with his seventh Quality Game out of his last nine games.
THE UNEXPECTED
Evan Moore snuck in with a rare Quality Game. Ok, it was his fourth of the year for those of you scoring at home. Daniel Fells also chimed in with his third Quality Game of the year. How about Jeremy Shockey with three straight Quality Games? Sorry, Greg Olsen, no Quality Games for you! Look, Kyle Rudolph earned a Quality Game on Christmas Eve! Coincidence? Yeah, it was.
Here are the top tight ends that didn’t earn a Quality Game this week. Antonio Gates really hurt some Fantasy owners over the past two weeks with no Quality Games. Jason Witten also disappointed many Fantasy owners.
|
Consistency Leaders – YTD – Tight Ends
|
Rob Gronkowski is the only tight end with over 300 points and he would be ranked third in overall points if he was a wide receiver. That’s insane! Jimmy Graham has earned 271.30 points and that would be ranked fourth behind Gronkowski. Graham still has the consistency title with one more Quality Game than Gronk. It will be very interesting to see where these two get drafted in next year’s Fantasy drafts.
There’s your Week 16 list of Quality Games earned.
Week Seventeen – Quality Matchups
My Quality Game research has also shown that most Quality Games are earned during a Quality Matchup. This is a game where the player is either playing at home OR away versus a bottom ten defense. If you want more analysis to help with setting your lineup each week, check out the Xclusive Edge Package and you will see the Historical Consistency rankings each week.
So, let’s take a look at the schedule.
This week’s home teams are:
Philadelphia, Green Bay, Miami, New Orleans, St. Louis, Minnesota, Houston, Jacksonville, New England, Cleveland, Denver, Cincinnati, Arizona, Atlanta, Oakland and New York Giants.
Teams that are playing away versus a bottom ten defense include:
Detroit @ Green Bay
Buffalo @ New England
Dallas @ New York Giants
Carolina @ New Orleans
Chicago @ Minnesota
Kansas City @ Denver
As I mentioned above, the Fantasy players in these Quality Matchups have a much higher rate of performing above average in comparison to the other players at that position.
