Below you will find our best guess at the first round for this years MLB entry draft.  We have tried to take into consideration team’s needs and certain signability issues that come with certain players.

#1- Tampa Bay Rays:  Tim Beckham, SS, Griffin HS, Griffin, GA.  Alt. Pick:  Buster Posey, C, Florida State

Very toolsy SS may be hard to pass up.

#2-Pittsburgh Pirates:  Pedro Alvarez, 3B Vanderbilt.

Alt. Pick:  Tim Beckham, SS, Griffin HS, Griffin, GA.

If Beckham goes to the Rays.  Alvarez should be their pick but money may factor into it.

#3-Kansas City Royals:  Buster Posey, C, Florida State

Alt. Pick:  Eric Hosmer, 1B, American Heritage HS, Plantation, FL.

They could use a solid catching prospect.

#4-Baltimore Orioles:  Justin Smoak, 1B, South CarolinaAlt. Pick:  Gordon Beckham, SS, Georgia.
He is the best college bat in the draft.

#5-San Francisco Giants:  Kyle Skipworth, C, Patriot HS, Riverside, CAAlt. Pick:  Gordon Beckham, SS, Georgia.
Best high school catcher since Joe Mauer?

#6-Florida Marlins:  Brian Matusz, LHP, San DiegoAlt. Pick:  Aaron Crow, RHP, Missouri.
With the run bats Marlins may take the best pitcher.

#7-Cincinnati Reds:  Gordon Beckham, SS, Georgia.  Alt. Pick:  Brian Matusz, LHP, San Diego.
He would be hard to pass up here.

#8-Chicago White Sox:  Yonder Alonso, 1B, Miami

Alt. Pick:  Brett Wallace, 1B/3B, Arizona State

A very good college first baseman.

#9-Washington Nationals:  Aaron Crow, RHP, MissouriAlt. Pick:  Tim Melville, RHP, Wentzville Holt
If he is still there they need to take him.

#10-Houston Astros:  Aaron Hicks, OF/RHP, Woodrow Wilson HS, Long Beach, CA

Alt. Pick:  Tanner Scheppers, RHP, Fresno State.

 Looking to be OF?

#11-Texas RangersAndrew Cashner, RHP, TCU.

Alt. Pick:  Eric Hosmer, 1B, American Heritage HS, Plantation, FL.

A closer prospect that is rising fast.

#12-Oakland Athletics:  Brett Wallace, 1B/3B, Arizona StateAlt. Pick:  Josh Fields, RHP, Georgia.

Has big offensive upside and patience.

#13-St. Louis Cardinals:  Shooter Hunt, RHP, Tulane. Alt. Pick:  Christian Friedrich, LHP, Eastern Kentucky.
A hitter is possible but I think it will be college arm.

#14-Minnesota Twins:  Tim Melville, RHP, Wentzville Holt HS, MO.  Alt. Pick:  Christian Friedrich, LHP, Eastern Kentucky.
Best high school arm in the draft.

#15-Los Angeles Dodgers:  Eric Hosmer, 1B, American Heritage HS, Plantation, FL.

Alt. Pick:  Zach Collier, OF, Chino Hills HS, CA.

 First signability victim?

#16-Milwaukee Brewers:  Christian Friedrich, LHP, Eastern KentuckyAlt. Pick:  Ryan Perry, RHP, Arizona.
 Very solid arm.

#17-Toronto Blue Jays:  Brett Lawrie, C/3B, Langley, B.C.

Alt. Pick:  Zach Collier, OF, Chino Hills HS, CA.

No set position may be an issue.

#18-New York Mets:  Ryan Perry, RHP, Arizona

Alt. Pick:  Ike Davis, OF, Arizona State.

 Won't pass up this arm.

#19-Chicago Cubs:  Gerrit Cole, RHP, Orange Lutheran HS, Orange, CAAlt. Pick:  Casey Kelly, SS, Sarasota HS, FL.
 May not worry about signability.

#20-Seattle Mariners:  Daniel Schlereth, LHP, ArizonaAlt. Pick:  Ethan Martin, RHP, Stephens County HS, Toccoa, GA.
Has got velocity they may be looking for 98 mph.

#21-Detroit Tigers:  Ethan Martin, RHP, Stephens County HS, Toccoa, GA.Alt. Pick:  Casey Kelly, SS, Sarasota HS, FL.
Hit 95 on the gun and has been compared to Matt Williams at 3rd. Wow.

#22-New York Mets:  Ike Davis, OF, Arizona StateAlt. Pick:  Jason Castro, C, Stanford.
He could help sooner rather than later.

#23-San Diego Padres:  Jason Castro, C, Stanford.  Alt. Pick:  Anthony Hewitt, SS, Salisbury School, Salisbury, CT.
Most people say he will be able to stay at Catcher.

#24-Philadelphia Phillies:  Zach Collier, OF, Chino Hills HS, CA.  Alt. Pick:  Casey Kelly, SS, Sarasota HS, FL.
He may have the tools they want.

#25-Colorado RockiesJake Odorizzi, RHP, Highland HS, ILAlt. Pick:  Jemile Weeks, 2B, Miami.
This looks to be his spot.

#26-Arizona Diamondbacks:  Lance Lynn, RHP, Mississippi

Alt. Pick:  Conor Gillaspie, 3B, Wichita State.

Look for Arizona to get back some of what they gave up in the Haren deal.

#27-Minnesota Twins:  Anthony Hewitt, SS, Salisbury School, Salisbury, CT.  Alt. Pick:  Reese Havens, SS, South Carolina.
 They could use a SS.

#28-New York Yankees:  David Cooper, 1B, California

Alt. Pick:  Tanner Scheppers, RHP, Fresno State.

This slugger may make to much sense.

#29-Cleveland Indians:  Jemile Weeks, 2B, MiamiAlt. Pick:  Conor Gillaspie, 3B, Wichita State.

If the fast track college relievers are gone they will go with the best available.

#30-Boston Red Sox:  Reese Havens, SS, South Carolina. Alt. Pick:  Isaac Galloway, OF, Los Osos, CA.

He could end up at 3B.
