Are you looking for that youngster down on the farm who is going to be a fantasy star? Do you want to know which hyped prospects will be fantasy duds? Bill Root lists and analyzes the Top 200 Fantasy prospects.

Sure, there are many prospect lists out there. But did you ever stop to think how many of them are fantasy-focused? The answer is, not many. Many publications and websites have baseball prospect lists that punish players because of their horrendous defensive skills or because they are one-dimensional speed demons. Defense does not win fantasy championships and many times those pure speedsters can be Roto stars in the stolen base and runs categories. This Top 200 list simply reflects future Fantasy value.

I have primarily ranked the players based on their long-term fantasy value. Factors such as opportunity for playing time, position value, impact in the short-term, age, composition of major league team, overall individual skills, and future category contributions were all considered in the analysis. Study this list and you will find yourself a fantasy diamond in the rough to scoop up on draft day or off the waiver wire. And remember, this list will continually be updated throughout the season. So, continue to check back.

8	Matt Gamel	3B	24	MIL	AA	Elbow injury slowed down this hitting machine in second half of last year and makes him underrated (especially if he stays at 3B).
9	Cameron Maybin	OF	22	FLA	AA	While he has a high ceiling, he must cut down on strikeouts to reach it.
10	Dexter Fowler	OF	23	COL	AA	Jump on this kid ASAP, as he is a five-category fantasy star in the making and will have Coors Field on his side.
11	Justin Smoak	1B	22	TEX	LOA	"Smoking hot" is a phrase I have copyrighted for this guy, as I expect this advanced switch-hitter to fly through the Rangers' system and become a fantasy superstar within four years.
12	Logan Morrison	1B	22	FLA	HIA	I love everything this kid brings to the fantasy table, and wait until you see what he does away from the pitcher-friendly Florida State League.
13	Brett Wallace	3B	23	STL	AA	This 2008 draftee has already made hitting at the pro level look simple.
14	Rick Porcello	SP	20	DET	HIA	Tigers want to win now and will have a hard time keeping this youngster in the minors in 2009.

21	Lars Anderson	1B	21	BOS	AA	Big Papi's heir apparent has exceptional power and plate discipline.
22	Matt LaPorta	OF	24	CLE	AA	I love the power and patience, but he has a lot to prove after struggling post-Sabathia trade and in the Dominican Winter League.
23	Carlos Carrasco	SP	22	PHI	AAA	Could be a part of Phillies' rotation this year and will provide strikeouts and wins.
24	Chris Tillman	SP	21	BAL	AA	Needs to cut down on the walks, but talent is there for him to break into the weak Baltimore rotation sooner rather than later.

29	Tyler Flowers	C	23	CWS	HIA	Patience and power brings fantasy flowers. I love everything about this underrated prospect and trade to White Sox opens up doors for him at C, DH and/or 1B in the near future.
30	Brett Cecil	SP	23	TOR	AA	Great K/9 rate; has handled transition from reliever to starter nicely.
31	Gio Gonzalez	SP	23	OAK	MAJ	Strikeout machine who has a good shot at the Athletics' rotation in 2009 and is one of my super sleepers.
32	Mike Moustakas	3B	20	KC	LOA	Strong second half in 2008, but move from third base likely and I need to see more before I buy the hype juice.
33	Aaron Hicks	OF	19	MIN	HS	He possesses legit five-category fantasy skills and he started his pro career with a bang.

53	Jhoulys Chacin	SP	21	COL	HIA	Led minors in wins last year (18) and 2.83 GO/AO ratio suggests he can have at least some success at Coors Field.
54	Scott Elbert	SP	24	LAD	AA	Nasty, nasty stuff. Monitor him as he continues his rebirth after shoulder surgery.
55	Jordan Schafer	CF	22	ATL	AA	We may see him in CF in Atlanta very soon with the HGH controversy behind him.
56	Dayan Viciedo	3B	20	CWS	CUB	This Cuban defector can rake and it won't take much to leap over Josh Fields and Wilson Betemit.
57	Nick Adenhart	SP	23	LAA	AAA	Struggled in 2008 but has good arsenal and could get a shot in Angels' rotation at some point in 2009.
58	Mike Stanton	OF	19	FLA	LOA	Massive power. Maybin and Stanton are going to provide lineup protection for each other in Florida for years to come.
59	Chris Marrero	1B	21	WAS	HIA	Undervalued because he missed time in 2008 with broken leg.
60	Kenshin Kawakami	SP	34	ATL	JAP	Japanese product who will be a slightly above-average starter.

64	Angel Villalona	1B	19	SF	LOA	While he is young and raw, 118 K in 464 AB last year is concerning.
65	Desmond Jennings	OF	22	TB	HIA	Got speed? Injuries derailed him last year, but this burner has fantasy upside.
66	David Cooper	1B	22	TOR	HIA	No doubt, he can hit for average and draw a boatload of walks, but I question whether he can hit more than 15 HR/year for your fantasy team as a 1B or DH.
67	Michael Inoa	SP	17	OAK	DOM	6' 7" man-child and I can't wait to see if he lives up to the hype.
68	Jordan Zimmerman	SP	23	WAS	AA	JZ held hitters to a .215 BAA last year and the Nationals rotation has opportunities for me to start if I work on my slider.
69	Jess Todd	SP	23	STL	AAA	.213 BAA last year in the minors. A classic diamond in the rough.
70	Jeremy Jeffress	SP	21	MIL	AA	Huge upside with 100 mph fastball. The drug issues are behind him and now he just needs to refine the command.
71	Nolan Reimold	OF	25	BAL	AA	He figured it out in 2008. You need to figure out how to get him on your roster.
72	Andrew Lambo	OF	21	LAD	AA	He has the skills to hit for average and power in the majors.
73	Fernando Martinez	OF	20	NYM	AA	At this point, I think he is a product of New York hype and merely an average fantasy outfielder in the making.
74	Wilmer Flores	SS	18	NYM	R	Only 17 years-old but playing well above his age.
75	James McDonald	SP	24	LAD	AA	Good K/9 rate despite average fastball; will begin 2009 in relief role.
76	Ross Detwiler	SP	23	WAS	HIA	The potential is obvious and the opportunity will be there
77	Kila Ka'aihue	1B	25	KC	AAA	37 HR and 104 BB in minors last year. This kid will play himself into a major league spot even though he is currently blocked with Royals.
78	Chris Carter	1B	22	OAK	HIA	Adam Dunn Jr. He hits moonshots, draws a ton of walks, and has about 101 holes in his swing.
79	Gaby Sanchez	1B	25	FLA	AA	He will get his shot to man 1B this year for the Marlins. I am lukewarm on him.
80	Taylor Teagarden	C	25	TEX	MLB	Inconsistent bat + Great Defense = Overrated Fantasy Prospect.
81	Beau Mills	1B	23	CLE	HIA	Strong second half last year shows he is adjusting to 1B.

127	Josh Reddick	OF	22	BOS	AA	The Red Sox like this kid and he has a bright future if he just takes a few more walks.

129	David Hernandez	SP	24	BAL	AA	Sleeper alert who is a K machine. Gets lost because he is just another horse in the stable of fantasy prospect arms for the Orioles.

131	Kyle Skipworth	C	19	FLA	R	Needs a lot of time.
132	Danny Valencia	3B	24	MIN	AA	I would love this natural-born hitter to get a shot at 3B for Twins.
133	Ike Davis	1B	22	NYM	SS	Ouch. This proclaimed power hitter from the 2008 draft had ZERO HR in his first 215 pro AB.

141	Dellin Betances	SP	21	NYY	LOA	Frontline starter potential because of natural ability, but he can't stay healthy.

143	Jose Ceda	RP	22	FLA	AA	While relievers aren't usually fantasy relevant, this kid has the stuff to be a lights-out closer.

145	Tyler Robertson	SP	21	MIN	HIA	Lefty that has all the makings of an excellent fantasy starter with K totals.

147	Wes Hodges	3B	24	CLE	AA	Nice Arizona Fall League season and opportunity is there at 3B in Cleveland.
148	Everth Cabrera	2B	22	SD	LOA	Padres may put this little rocket on their roster, as they selected him in the Rule 5 draft; he could make a nice Roto impact if he is given playing time (73 SB in '08).
149	Michael Pineda	SP	20	SEA	LOA	Long and lean youngster from the Dominican who dominated Low-A ball.
150	Cesar Carrillo	SP	25	SD	AA	The Padres are anxious to get this former top prospect to the majors.
151	Jemile Weeks	2B	22	OAK	LOA	Is a good table setter. It will be interesting to see how Billy Beane handles Weeks and Cardenas.
152	Cole Rohrbough	SP	22	ATL	HIA	Jump on this strikeout pitcher now before word gets out. He has frontline fantasy potential.
153	Michael Brantley	OF	22	CLE	AA	Tremendous plate discipline and wheels.
154	Carlos Rosa	SP	24	KC	AAA	Upside as a starter, but may be converted to relief because of arm problems.
155	Jason Castro	C	22	HOU	SS	Great glove, but I am still skeptical of the bat.
156	Jose Mijares	RP	24	MIN	MLB	Could turn into a key figure in Twins bullpen in 2009 and put up eye-popping K numbers.
