The Hooker makes his Roto Experts debut, bringing you pin-seeking picks for the Bridgestone Invitational.

Welcome to the new home of “Tips From a Hooker!”

Jim Furyk

If you are unfamiliar with the column, this column has lived at the now defunct TalentedMrRoto.com and at TipsFromAHooker.com for the past three and a half years. Every week we will be taking a look at the upcoming PGA tournament, and making picks for several of the fantasy golf games on the Internet.

As you probably know, fantasy golf games take on many different shapes and sizes. I think I can honestly say I’ve never been in two leagues that were the same. Add in the fact you usually have around 150 individuals to choose from each week, making “blanket” picks is next to impossible. Instead I’ll make picks in different formats and show you names that could be useful in various league formats. Enough of the small talk, lets take a look at this week’s tournament.

This week the PGA rolls into Akron, OH for the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club.
Tiger Woods is the three time defending champ, and will not be defending (in case you have been on vacation in a cave for the past two months.) Considering Tiger has won this event six of the last nine times, you’ve got to figure the rest of the field is feeling pretty good coming in this week.
So who are the names to be watching this week? Only the Hooker knows...

ESPN Best Ball Challenge

My Picks

Jim Furyk – Furyk didn’t play here last year, but in eight previous tries he has six top 10 finishes.

Anthony Kim – Kim is my man crush this season. Actually, I think it’s safe to say the crush started last season. Regardless, he has been playing some great golf, and with a nice eighth place finish last week, I think he is poised to have another good week.

Justin Rose – Rose has had some ups and downs this season, but he is coming into an event he placed second in last year, and has been in the top 5 two of the three times he has played here.

Chez Reavie – Last week I was screaming, “Damn you Reavie!” I was debating on making him my last pick, but in the end didn’t. So of course he goes out and wins the Canadian Open. This is his first time at the Bridgestone, but at his current cost and considering he is coming off a win, I think he is a no-brainer.

Anthony Kim

Justin Leonard – I almost picked Leonard in the ESPN game. He’s having a spectacular season and has a good history at this event with an average finishing place of 22.8.

Ian Poulter – Poulter is coming off his second place finish at the British Open. He’s had a solid record at this event, finishing no worse than 33rd in five tries.

Retief Goosen – I think Goosen is right on the verge of playing some stellar golf. He has four top 25 finishes in seven tries at this event.

C Pool

Chez Reavie

Trevor Immelman – Immelman has had some high highs this season, but has balanced that out with some missed cuts and poor finishes. He has been solid at the Bridgestone in the past and is coming off a solid finish at the British. I think this week could easily be another high point in his season.

There is not much new here. Only Lonard is a new name. He’s having a very inconsistent season, but he has been solid at this event with three top 25 finishes in six tries.
