Managing Partner

Ben Ice is a 23 year veteran of fantasy sports, which tells you he’s really old. He is the managing partner of RotoExperts.com and serves as the Vice President of Marketing for Fantasy Auctioneer.com His passion is all things football, and relatives have threatened on numerous occasions to have him committed to psychiatric evaluation for Obsessive Compulsive disorder. Founding RotoExperts with several friends was his way of thumbing his nose at family members, who thankfully live far, far away.

In 2004 Ben turned his compulsion to writing for Tony Holm’s Fantasy Sharks and was nominated for two Fantasy Sports Writer Association awards, making it to the finals for both. He followed that up in 2005 when he battled Chris Harris in the finals of the Talented Mr Roto Open Pen II competition. Although he left the finals battered and bruised while Chris went on to win several FSWA awards, Matt Berry felt pity for him and gave him a job anyway. That year he was nominated for another FSWA award for his coverage of the NFC on CBS Sportsline. Since then he has been featured as a fantasy football expert on Fox Sports Radio, covered the NFL draft on WDAE The Sports Animal and has covered baseball and football auction drafts in several print magazines, including RotoWire, Krause Publications, CBS Sportsline Fantasy Magazine and The Sporting News annual draft guide.

Tommy Landry

Tommy Landry is an avid fantasy sports participant (aka "junkie") since last century (okay, so the 1990s is technically last century) and has been a fantasy analyst for over five years. He first cut his teeth with his own free fantasy advice website, T-PLan's Fantasy World. He later spent over two years as the injury expert for fantasyfootballchamps.com (ffchamps.com).

From there, Tommy joined TalentedMrRoto.com after he narrowly lost in the semifinals of the site's annual "Open Pen" competition. While with TMR, Tommy was an NBA columnist; a Senior News Reporter for NFL, MLB, and NBA; a guest TRUMmer, and a designated contributor to the message boards. His fantasy analysis and advice has also appeared on NBA.com. Tommy has kept his own sports analysis and fantasy advice blog since 2005, is an accomplished musician, has had his original poetry published on three occasions, and he enjoys life in Austin, TX, the live music capital of the world.

Scott Engel

Scott joined RotoExperts.com in 2008 after four years at ESPN.com, where he was an Associate Editor and Fantasy Writer. He began his career as a fantasy professional in 1996 at CBS Sportsline, where he served as Managing Editor of Fantasy Sports and Senior Writer during his tenure. In 2006, Scott was named Fantasy Football Writer of the Year by the Fantasy Sports Writer's Association in his first year of eligibility. 

Scott was also a founding member of the Fantasy Sports Writer's Association's Executive Committee.  Scott was born and raised in Flushing, New York, and now lives in the town of Bayside, Queens. He has been a New York Mets fan since 1968 and has been a Seattle Seahawks fan since 1983. Scott celebrated his 14th wedding anniversary with his wife, Victoria, in 2008 and they have a 13-year-old son, Sean.

Matthew Greber

Matthew began playing fantasy sports back when Otis Thorpe was a value pick at forward, Haywood Jeffires was a top-5 WR and Andy Van Slyke helped him win a fantasy championship. These days, he obsesses and writes about fantasy football and baseball. Hey, it beats facing the real day-to-day realities of rooting for the San Francisco 49ers and Giants, two teams that have some struggles. (To put it lightly.)

As a former contributing writer and associate editor of Talented MrRoto.com, Matthew (Matt, Greebs, whatever) has been writing about fantasy sports for several years, as well as an occasional foray into the world of movies for MSNMovies and ManhattanMovieMagazine.com.  Shortly before the All-Star Break this season, he’s due to become a father for the first time, and he looks forward to submitting many incoherent columns fueled on an unhealthy lack of sleep. Jonathan Phillips

At age eighteen, Jon was inspired to start writing by his cousin Mike, but was terrible.  In fact, his fiction writing professor in college hated every single story of his except one.  And this one gave Jon some hope.  Nineteen years later, he and Mike make up a writing team (now) represented for TV and Feature Films in Los Angeles, California.  He's performed stand-up comedy (he was so darn funny, he really was), is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory (he still improvises to this day -- how else do you think he gets to the casino so often during work hours?) and is one step away from opening his own torn clothing line called Starving Artists.  Our tag line is "the clothes barely fit the man," and there's a picture of a beat up kid with torn clothes hanging off of him.

Paul Bourdett

Paul is the resident rookie here at rotoexperts.com.  While he may not have as impressive a resume as some of our more experienced writers, he has won a number of leagues in which he's played, including the infamous "Pablo Slam", where he won a football, baseball, and basketball league all in a 365 day period.  He’s also been known for leading many a league in transactions and trade offers, as well as message board posts calling out cheaters and deadbeats.  He comes to us highly recommended by a friend who writes in the industry. 
 
On the professional level, he spent 3 years working as a freelance game logger for CBS Sports, keeping track of stats and highlights for NCAA football/basketball and NFL halftime and post-game shows.  He was later canned for showing up late after pulling a 9pm-5am shift at the local bar.

If you’re looking for stats and splits, this mofo’s got the goods.  Whether he's at work, at home, or out and about, you can be sure there's a stat tracker of some sort running in the background on his desktop, laptop, or smartphone.  If proudly admitting to keeping running stats for a full season of Lakers v. Celtics as a young child doesn’t scream obsession, we don’t know what does.

Tom Lorenzo

Tom is a former fantasy writer for the Talented Mr. Roto and NBA.com.  He is a self-proclaimed "expert" in fantasy basketball and baseball and he's been playing fantasy football for nearly 14 years now, so we won't sell him short on that end.  He even has a fantasy hockey ring under his belt, but let's not go there.  His credentials?  He received his undergrad degree at the same school as Rik Smits and attended graduate school at the same school Lou Gehrig attended.  They were both well-known fantasy players.  Interestingly enough, Tom does not long for the days when scores were tabulated daily per the morning newspaper's boxscores. 

Tom can currently be read at the comedy blog Lolabrigada.com and can be seen strutting his funny mug at various comedy venues in NYC.  He still holds the current record for most points scored in a single game at his old junior high.  He hopes to cut a ribbon one day for that feat.

Mike Gilbert

Mike has been writing for over 30 years, since age 5. Over that time, his style has changed dramatically, from the rudimentary “See Spot run,” to the more erudite, “Dog, if you don’t let go of that ball, I will end you!” While he initially dismissed fantasy sports as, “Dungeons & Dragons with beer,” his realization that you could win money playing them ended his days of betting on the ponies forever. Since 1998, Mike has lived for fantasy football draft day, likening it to Christmas morning. Over that time, his middle name has been ‘Winner’ and/or ‘Champion, ’ and his winning streak is such that he had a custom made t-shirt with the legend “I’m #1” printed on the front in glittery iron-on letters. 

Since 2005, he has blogged about football, politics, music and his kid, his four non-Star Wars related passions. Currently, you can find him reviewing records and generally taking a piss out of the indie rock and electronic music scenes at his website, Booming Din.com.

Jon Williams

John toiled for many years at various jobs he found unsatisfying. His frequent distraction since 1989 has been fantasy baseball. In those olden days with out a computer or the plethora of fantasy experts to assist him Jon silently worked on his unique strategies which succeeded in bringing him fantasy gold time and time again.. Then the boom of home computers caught on and Jon discovered the internet and all it had to offer. A few days later Jon finished the internet and decided he had better add some content of his own. It began in various blogs not worth remembering but finally seemed to strike a chord writing about the New York Yankees at bronxpride.com.

Since then his work has appeared on Sports Blurb, Talented Mr. Roto, NBA.com, Foxsports.com and a dozen sites you’ve never heard of.  Someday Jon hopes to be recognized as the fantasy genius he is in his own mind…

Doug Anderson

Doug has been playing fantasy baseball in some form for over 25 years, beginning with Strat-O-Matic immediately following his birth. The 1985 Strat-O-Matic season was especially memorable with Keith Moreland inexplicably hit 60+ HR (If you roll the dice enough times something good will happen). "Rotodaddy," currently teaches 3rd grade in Central Florida, which gives him valuable insight into the minds of the average fantasy player. Mr. Anderson specializes in deeper monoleagues, but has come to grudgingly accept the reality that is mixed leagues.

RotoExperts.com has scoured the web for the finest in fantasy sports content, yet still decided to hire Jeff Andriesse. A veteran of fantasy sports and even geekier pastimes dating back to his childhood, Jeff brings the mindset of a jilted lover to the proceedings. His unique take on all things fantasy - pessimism and disenchantment with a pinch of despair - has led to a Deepak Choprah-like following at Rotowhine.com, where tortured fantasy souls gather to lament blown saves, goalline backs and anything related to Jermaine O'Neal.

Jeff founded Rotowhine in 2004 and has been the blog's editor, head writer and designer since an overhaul in 2007. He also wrote a weekly NBA column for FantasyFanatics.com during the 2007-08 season. Jeff is a graphic designer by trade, spent a decade as a sports information director in college athletics and has a degree in journalism. You'd think he'd do more with all of this than bitch about his fantasy teams.

Jeff is an NBA diehard who grew up on a steady diet of Bird, McHale and Parish. Now that his beloved Celtics have finally won another one, he promises to tone down his cynicism and celebrate the 15-20 games Jermaine O'Neal does play per season. Three words: Glass. Half. Full.

Kyle Stack is a proud native of Los Angeles and alumnus of Montana State University. He remains a devoted fan of the Lakers, Dodgers, 49ers, UCLA Bruins and his (Fighting) Bobcats.

Kyle was the sports editor of MSU's student newspaper, The Exponent, for two years, and he co-hosted an off-campus sports talk radio show, The RedZone, with a pair of friends for nine months before graduating.

He moved to New York City in June 2007, where he now works as a fantasy writer for MLB.com as well as a freelance sports writer for amNew York. Ultimately, his goal is to provide readers (and, hopefully in the future, listeners) with objective, insightful and entertaining sports analysis.

“I’m all that and then some, tall dark and handsome …” nope that’s not right.  “I’m a writer, a poet, a genius, I know it …” that’s not it either.  “I’m a sexual innuendo in this burned out paradise …” WHOA!  So much for defining Bangs by song.  From the paper and pencil days, when getting the weekly stats in USA Today was the highlight of the week, to now having all that stats you could ever desire at your fingertips, Bangs has been in the action, whether the fantasy sport is baseball, football, or basketball.

Wade Alberty (a.k.a. “Southpaw” and “The Hooker”) is a 15 year veteran of fantasy sports, and has been a fantasy columnist since 2003. A certified (some would say certifiable) love of Strat-O-Matic, combined with a failed attempt at a baseball career, led Phil to fantasy sports in the late 80’s. Andy Bottoms

While others were experimenting with booze, drugs, and god only knows what else during their formative college years, Andy chose to expand on what at the time was a healthy interest in fantasy sports—and drinking.  That was nearly ten years ago but as his family, friends, and co-workers can attest, that interest has since reached new and sometimes troubling levels thanks to his participation in multiple fantasy baseball and football leagues and a more recent interest in college fantasy football.  In terms of writing, Andy covered fantasy baseball and football for three years at GetSportsInfo.com while living in Cincinnati and also served as the Reds scout for TMR for about a year. 

As far as fan allegiances, Andy lives and breathes IU basketball and college hoops in general which makes him a perfect fit for our NCAA coverage, and that’s not just because he will have plenty of free time to cover the tournament for us when March rolls around thanks to former coach and program wrecker Kelvin Sampson.  While basketball is worshipped in Indiana, Andy would like to point out that he grew up shooting hoops in his driveway and not against the side of a barn like you see in all the March Madness promos or in the middle of a field like Jimmy Chitwood.  Andy also loves IU football which will undoubtedly be an exercise in futility for the rest of his natural life, cheers on the Eagles as they consistently exhibit some of the worst game and clock management in NFL history, and watches helplessly as the Reds continue to tarnish a once proud and storied franchise.  And oh yeah, he loves his wife and daughter too.

Trevor Lane

Trevor Lane is an NBA expert who fell in love with the game during the Showtime era.  He used to practice Kareem's sky hook in the driveway for hours on end until he found out that it doesn't work (or look nearly as cool) when you are vertically challenged.  Undaunted, Trevor has been following the NBA and his beloved Lakers ever since.

Trevor stumbled upon fantasy basketball in 2000 when he ditched a college history course and spent the morning searching basketball web sites instead.  Ironically Trevor is now a credentialed history teacher, but still has the love for fantasy basketball that began on that fateful morning.

Trevor has been writing online since 2001 and spent last season writing for NBA.com after winning the inaugural Fan Blogger contest.  He has also managed several blogs as well as a website or two over the years, and currently is working on a novel that he hopes to finish sometime before the Kurt Rambis look comes back in style.

Robert Poe

Robert is a true Florida cracker. He still lives in his boyhood town, Dunedin Florida; spring training home of the Toronto Blue Jays. Robert’s passion for sports runs deep. Growing up he spent all his free time playing sports or memorizing the backs of baseball cards. His first job was working at the Englebert complex for the Blue Jays.

His college days at Florida State were mostly wasted pouring over USA Today’s sports section at 3 or 4 in the morning entering baseball stats into Lotus 123. Ask him to string two sentences together and he might struggle. Ask him to build a spreadsheet with complex values to analyze baseball stats, and you have your man.

His not-so-healthy obsession earned him a spot in Roto-7, a developmental league at Baseball HQ in which he dominated most of the season against some of the top Sabermetric minds in fantasy. A year later he landed a gig as the Tampa Bay Rays scout for Talented Mr Roto. He parlayed that into a job as a datacaster for MLB.com, where he scores Rays games and gets to hang out in the press box with the media big shots. Jason Revelia

Minor Leagues

When I asked Jason Revelia to Join the RotoExperts team, I have to admit that it was out of self-defense. Jason, Bob Poe and I play in several redraft and dynasty leagues, both football and baseball, and Jason always seems to be in the championship game, including thwarting my Big Hooties squad last year in Norton’s Baseball League. He pulled out an improbable victory when the (then) Devil Rays decided to sit James Shields after I’d set my lineup. I lost on a tiebreaker. He told me that he had already written his capitulation on the last day of the season when my pitching suddenly took a nasty ERA hit. My team was flat out filthy, but somehow he pulled out the win. Like I said…self-defense.

Jason, who goes by several nicknames, some of them unmentionable in mixed company, is the guy in your league who always has the player you plan to grab from the waiver wire. You catch a whiff, a scent of someone who could be that diamond in the rough, the one who gets you over the hump, and when you search you realize Jason picked him up yesterday. He’s uncanny that way…no, make that a little frightening.

You see, Jason is a freak. He subscribes to every conceivable live game feed and would rather go over the Hawaiian Winter League stats then watch Game Five of the World Series. Trust me when I say you want to follow this guy. For me it’s classic Sun Tzu…keep your enemies closest. I’m taking that advice to heart. The bottom line is, this is someone you want giving you fantasy advice. I just want to steal his secrets and kick his ass for last year’s loss….but I digress.

Jason believes that winning a fantasy leagues doesn’t happen on draft day. It’s the guys called up from the minors, the bench players next in line when a starter goes down, who wins the day and the league. If you believe that too, stick around. If you don’t…I believe we have some room in a few of our money leagues for you.

Oh and as much as he likes baseball he is an even bigger Tampa Bay Bucs fan.
