Week 12 Waiver Wire: RB Injuries, News & Notes

The Philly backfield’s been maddening all season. Every time you think you have a grasp on how the touches will be distributed, Doug Peterson goes all M. Night Shyamalan on us and delivers a nonsensical swerve. There appears to be clarity on the horizon however. Ryan Mathews is expected to miss a few weeks with a knee injury. He was spotted in a brace after the game in Seattle. Taking another name out of the fray, Darren Sproles injured his ribs just before half and didn’t come back into the game. Early speculation has him with a fractured rib, which would keep him out some time. Hello, Wendell Smallwood. Smallwood took lead chair over Kenjon Barner following Mathews’ and Sproles’ exits. The encouraging part? Smallwood appears to absorbed both guy’s jobs. Smallwood out-snapped Barner 38:18, topped him in carries 13:3, and saw five targets to Barner’s one. With Mathews expected to miss at least a few games, Smallwood’s the top add of the week. UPDATE: Sproles is on track to play Monday night, apparently, the the rib issues isn’t in a concern area. Here’s still questionable. As is Mathews. Doug Peterson says he’s day-to-day, but reports have him dealing with an MCL sprain. If the reports are true, there’s no way he’s playing against the Packers. Still, with Sproles and Mathews not as banged up as first expected, Smallwood is a lot closer to Starks, Ivory, and Hightower in terms of pickups, instead of on an island, levitating above the second tier.

Rough afternoon for the Bengals. Gio Bernard.. HE GONE!!! Gio tore his ACL, leaving Jeremy Hill to get all the backfield opportunity. Receiving work included. Hill should be a solid Top 15 RB the rest of the season. Rex Burkhead will back up Hill.

LeSean McCoy dislocated his thumb and sat out the remainer of the game. Apparently, he’s going to eventually require surgery, yet seems unlikely to miss any time. So, that’s a bonus. Mike Gillislee looked terrific against the Bengals as lead back in Shady’s absence. Gillislee is an elite handcuff, worth owning whether or not you have McCoy. At this time of the season, the need for back up WRs and TEs you’re never going to play is gone. Start trimming your bench fat and stockpile RB handcuffs. Make sure to target RBs that will certainly garner the majority of his team’s workload should starter go down. Gillislee is one of those handcuffs.

It was a fun two weeks, wasn’t it CJ Prosise owners? CJ Prosise is finished for four-to-six weeks with a fractured scapula. Is he worth holding on to? Probably not. But if you have the bench space or an IR spot, go for it. All of a sudden, Thomas Rawls has been thrust back into RB1 territory. He’s the only healthy body the Seahawks have left in the backfield. They cut Christine Michael, freshly activated Troymaine Pope hurt his ankle against the clear, and Prosise is done. Maybe Alex Collins will get back on the field next week. If you grabbed Rawls over the past couple weeks and stashed him, congrats! Every single thing that needed to happen for him to regain full Fantasy value materialized. What a coup.

Mark Ingram got clobbered Thursday night and spent the rest of the evening feeling like I do at 2am after mixing beer, wine, liquor, and attending a Jamaican Sauna. He needs to pass concussion protocol in order to suit up in Week 12 against the Saints, so we’re not going to know his status until later in the week. Tim Hightower would move into must start territory, even in a full week, if Ingram sits.

TJ Yeldon hurt his ankle in the first half against the Lions and never returned. This gave Chris Ivory ALLLLLLLL the work. Should Yeldon miss a few games, Ivory will be an RB2 during that stretch. This means he’s worth owning. Keep an eye on Yeldon’s practice reports during the week. If Yeldon sits, Denard Robinson would work behind Ivory as a chance of pace.

Darren McFadden (Elbow) may be activated next week. It’ll be interesting to see if he can challenge Alfred Morris as primary handcuff to Ezekiel Elliott. Other than that, pay no attention.

Charcandrick West suffered a concussion against the Bucs. If he sits, expect to get a few more Knile Davis cameos, but also a bump to Spencer Ware’s receiving totals.

Week 12 Waiver Wire: WR Injuries, News & Notes

In the worst news of the day, AJ Green could be done for the year with a hamstring tear. There’s a possibility his Monday MRI reveals a less significant injury, so don’t drop him until you know for sure, but let’s be real… a Bengals team that’s out of it probably shouldn’t risk further issues with its best player. This opens up a slew of targets for the rest of the cronies in the Cincy passing game. Tyler Eifert played a season-high 89% of the snaps, which is about his average last season. Good to know he’s back at full speed, because he’s about to see more weekly work. Between Brandon LaFell and Tyler Boyd, I’ll side with Boyd just based on skill. LaFell won the target battle 9:8 on Sunday, but we’ve all been down the LaFell road before; we know how that story turns out. Now, he’s not devoid of value, I just prefer Boyd, especially in PPR formats. Boyd could be a weekly WR3 in 14-team leagues or upside FLEX in 12-teamers. LaFell would be startable in positive matchups too.

Robert Woods’ knee suffered the same fate as dream-state Laura Palmer’s elbow, it bend back. He was spotted on crutches after the game. Don’t expect Woods on the field any time soon. However, Sammy Watkins (Foot) is eligible to return this week. Now, he’s unlikely to play, but it’s not completely out of the question either. Especially with the Bills challenging for a playoff spot and devoid of any WRs. I’d grab Watkins for the stretch run, if he doesn’t return against the Jags since Week 13 looks is definitely in play. Without Woods, Charles Clay gets a bump in usage, but he’s by no means a must add. Marquise Goodwin, Brandon Tate, Percy Harvin, do you really want to own any of these losers? Didn’t think so

Week 12 Waiver Wire: TE Injuries, News & Notes

Rob Gronkowski (Chest) didn’t make the trek to San Francisco, but is expected to play Week 12 against the Jets.

Zach Miller’s done for the season with a broken foot. HIS NAME IS LOGAN PAULSEN is the Bears new starting TE. It’s worth monitoring how involved he gets in the offense next week, Miller was a large part of this offense.

Jacob Tamme (Shoulder) also finished for the year. Austin Hooper is the starter now.

Cody Kessler is dealing with a case of the dizzies for the second time this season, so expect Josh McCown to be under center Thanksgiving weekend against the Giants. This is great news for Terrelle Pryor, Corey Coleman, Duke Johnson and especially Gary Barnidge. New York has been brutal against TEs this season, Barnidge makes a decent streamer.

Reports surfaced Monday Andrew Luck entered concussion protocol. With the Colts playing Thursday, it’s unlikely Luck is going to have the opportunity to hoist a turkey-themed trophy against the Steelers. Davante Adams is the only player this season to go into the protocol on a Monday and play on a Thursday, but he was doubtful up to the very last second. It’s not inconceivable Luck can play, however it’s far more likely we’ll be getting Spin Move Master Scott Tolzien.

Jay Cutler (Shoulder) could be finished for the year. Or it could just be a convenient excuse not to play him. Since the Bears are so secretive about injury, this could be nothing and Cutler may still play this week. If not, it’s Matt Barkley, who’s legit awful. Whatever the decision, if you need Smokin J, he’ll be having a cig out back.
