Week 9 Waiver Wire: RB Injuries, News & Notes

Week 9 Running Back Snap Counts

Spencer Ware (Concussion) left the Colts game and never saw the field again. He’ll enter the league protocol, leaving his status for next week in doubt. It’s probably 50/50 that he plays next week against the Jags. If not, the CANDY MAN, Charcandrick West would assume the full time gig for the Chiefs, and see 80% of the snaps, or more. This would be an awesome time to unleash Jamaal Charles, however he’s off seeing Dr. James Andrews about his crippling knee issues. It’s doubtful we see him anytime soon. Also, it can’t be a good sign for Ware’s availability Sunday after the KC went reaching into the bottom of the barrel and signed Bishop Sankey.

Dion Lewis (knee) is practicing again. IT’S ALL HAPPENING!!!!!!!!

Jacquizz Rodgers (Foot) exited during the second half against the Raiders, leaving his Week 9 status in question. It’s unlikely Doug Martin (Hamstring) will be available Thursday night against the Falcons; this means the RB work will be split between Peyton Barber and Antone Smith… in a REVENGE SITUATION!!!! Entering Week 8, I would have gladly told you Barber was next in line for the Bucs after Quizz Show. That’s not how Sunday played out, though. For the day, Smith out snapped Barber 22:3. The magnitude of Rodgers’ injury is still unknown, and with the short turnaround, we won’t know before the waiver wire deadline, so I’d grab Smith if I needed an RB to plug-and-play in Week 9. Just know, there’s no value with him for long term. In fact, the move is to trade for Martin while his value is at an all-time low. He draws the Saints twice during the Fantasy playoffs. He should be back on the field by then. UPDATE: Being spotted in a walking boot doesn’t sound good for Rodgers’ availability Thursday night if the Bucs are expected to go with a committee of Smith, Barber, and a freshly re-signed Mike James. Unless Tampa comes out and clears all this up for us, I’ll be rolling with Smith if I need an RB.

LeSean McCoy (Hamstring) sat against the Patriots Sunday, in the hopes he’ll be ready for Week 9 against the Seattle. If not, Mike Gillislee will fill in as the Bills’ starter again, with Jonathan Williams and Reggie Bush spelling him. Beyond Gillislee, don’t worry about the other two in an awful match up. UPDATE: Buffalo is hoping Shady can practice Thursday. Since the Bills play Monday night, a full practice on Saturday would likely mean McCoy is a go against the Seahawks.

Devontae Booker (Shoulder) went down early against the Chargers but was able to return, assisting DFS players everywhere. In the interim, Kapri Bibbs filled in. With CJ Anderson finished for the Fantasy season, Bibbs is now Booker’s handcuff. UPDATE: Booker is undergoing more tests on his shoulder. Nothing to panic about, yet, but grabbing Bibbs now in case the injury becomes more serious would be the prudent move, especially for Booker owners.

Mark Ingram fumbled early and got benched. Because he’s the worst. Don’t expect the exile to persist, though. If I was a betting man, and I am, I’d wager that Ingram is back starting next week in a gravy match up against the 49ers. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to stash Tim Hightower away, just to be safe.

Matt Jones (Knee) sat. Robert Kelley (Remix), may have stolen is job. Pick him up to find out.

Tevin Coleman (Quad) was in street clothes for Atlanta’s triumph over Green Bay. Devonta Freeman scored twice, and Mirror Universe resident, Terron Ward, looked great in limited duty. Coleman should be back soon, so there’s no reason to added Ward, but it’s worth noting if news comes out Coleman has suffered a setback.

It’s expected Carlos Hyde (Shoulder) will return for the 49ers, but that’s no guarantee. If Hyde sits again, DuJuan Harris, not Mike Davis or Shaun Draughn is the RB you’d want to insert into your lineup. In Week 7, the Niners turned to Harris after the first quarter, and he ended up leading the backfield in snaps – Harris 24, Draughn 22, Davis 21. I understand that’s not a significant difference, but the more game the proceeded, the more involved Harris was. Even if Hyde is out, Harris isn’t a quality starter, but with six teams on bye, he’s an able body to consider if you’re desperate. I mean, I started shitty Reggie Bush in two leagues this week. Sometimes there’s no one available. Harris is available.

Intersting snap count: Christine Michael and CJ Prosise played an equal 21 snaps against the Saints. I wouldn’t pay it too much minds I was a Michael owner, but this does re-open the door for Thomas Rawls to regain some of the workload when he returns in a few weeks. Prosise is a deep PPR add.

Rumors started swirling Sunday morning that the NFL isn’t finished with the Ezekiel Elliott domestic abuse situation. That’s really the extent of it for the moment, but you should grab Alfred Morris immediately and stash him as a preventative measure.

The Packers backfield situation just doesn’t seem to be worth your investment. Even without Randall Cobb and TY Montgomery (Flea Market), Don Jackson and Knile Davis only managed a combined 18 snaps. Weirdly, despite his awfulness, James Starks will probably get this job when he returns from knee injury in a week or two. I don’t want to stash any of these guys, but, gun to my head, Starks probably ha step most lasting value. For next week, Jackson. UPDATE: The Packers cut Davis Monday afternoon. This leads me to believe Montgomery (or maybe Starks) is getting closer to full health. Although, without Davis around, Jackson would become a fringe FLEX play if Montgomery and Starks are inactive against the Colts. If Davis resurfaces in Kansas City this week, be very concerned if you are a Spencer Ware owner.

Week 9 Waiver Wire: WR Injuries, News & Notes

Ty Montgomery (Sickle Cell) and Randall Cobb (Hamstring) both sat Sunday. As a result, Jeff Janis, Trevor Davis, and Geronimo Allison all became relevant. Anticipate Monty and Cobb back in action next week, so don’t worry about those duds.

With John Brown (Leg) and Michael Floyd (Hamstring) a bit banged up, and Jaron Brown (ACL) out for the year, it paved the way for a JJ Nelson explosion. Arizona is entering its bye week, so don’t worry too much about it.

Will Fuller (Leg) and Jalen Strong (Ankle) both got dinged up against the Lions. Leaving Braxton Miller the last remaining wide out after DeAndre Hopkins. Unfortunately, Brock Osweiler is his QB, so there’s little upside to be had. Especially with Brock’s new found love of tossing it to his tight ends.

Steve Smith Sr. should return from his ankle sprain in Week 9. So, don’t automatically pencil in double digit targets for Mike Wallace against the Steelers.

DeSean Jackson possibly suffered a concussion that forced him into locker room, but he returned to the sidelines shortly thereafter with his arm wrapped. I have no idea what’s going on with him. Washington enters a bye week, so DJAX should be fine for Week 10. Either way, it’s becoming clear Jamison Crowder is the Skins WR to own.

I’ll update Cameron Meredith’s ranking after the Monday night game. I doubt many in the Bears’ passing game will succeed against the Vikings, but I’ll be looking at Meredith’s target share with Jay Cutler against what he was doing with Brian Hoyer. If it remains 20% or above, you’ll want to have him.

Andrew Hawkins and Josh McCown apparently have a closer relationship than anyone could have anticipated. I like how this sets up for Corey Coleman (Hand), who should be back on field very, very soon. If he doesn’t play next week against the Cowboys, Hawkins makes a deep league PPR plug-and-play if you need the help. UPDATE: Coleman has been cleared for full practice. Go get him.

Jacob Tamme (Shoulder) exited against the Packers and was replaced by Austin Hooper for the remainder of the game. Tamme’s expected to be fine long term, but with the quick turnaround Thursday night against Tampa, he may not suit up. If you’re the type of person who streams TEs, Hooper makes an interesting pick up if Tamme is ruled out. UPDATE: Tamme has been ruled out for Thursday night. Hooper is a Top 15 option Week 9.

Week 9 Waiver Wire: QB Injuries, News & Notes

Alex Smith (Concussion) got his bell rung twice against the Colts. Nick Foles could get the spot start Week 9 at home against the Jags. I’d think Smith will be able to go however. If not, Foles is a capable streamer.

Ben Roethlisberger (Knee) is expected to return to practice coming out the bye and start Week 9 against Baltimore. So much for that 4-6 weeks. Take the timetable for any Ben injury, divide it by a third, and that’s when he’ll be back. Ben back, and the extra week to rest, makes Sammie Coates someone you should consider adding again. He’s been dropped in over half of leagues.
