FANTASY FOOTBALL: COWBOYS-GIANTS PREVIEW

Scott Engel Managing Director September 4, 2012 9:51PM EDT
For the Cowboys, the key will be to control the clock, win the time of possession battle and keep some of the pressure off Tony Romo. That will not be easy for a shaky offensive line to do against a fearsome pass rush, especially with Jason Witten unlikely to play. So look for DeMarco Murray to get a lot of work as both a runner and receiver, and he’ll be very busy and productive. The presence of new FB Lawrence Vickers should offset some of the blocking issues, especially against a Giants linebacking unit that may be vulnerable in the middle. Romo will use quick play action strikes and will toss high percentage passes against a Giants CB unit beset by injuries. Expect a solid, but not outstanding night from Romo. Dez Bryant is a must-start against a depth-challenged Giants secondary, but Miles Austin is more of a WR3 after battling hamstring issues during the preseason. New York should be much more effective throwing the ball, and Eli Manning will be good for a minimum of two TD passes. Victor Cruz will overwork the Dallas pass defense, but Hakeem Nicks is no sure thing to produce optimally. Because of his lingering foot issues, you should go with the other option if you are faced with a tough decision between Nicks and another high-end Fantasy WR. Don’t bench him for a much lesser player, though. Martellus Bennett will want the ball for a TD against his former team, and he is a Week 1 value play. Ahmad Bradshaw will be good for a scoring run as well.

Start and Smile: DeMarco Murray, Dez Bryant, Eli Manning, Victor Cruz, Martellus Bennett

Watch and Worry: Hakeem Nicks, Dallas defense/special teams
