Five Hard Hitters to Consider Trading For Now

Tim McCullough Managing Editor April 11, 2017 2:37PM EDT
Welcome to Skill Drills. This was one of the first columns I wrote regularly for RotoExperts when I first joined the site 10 years ago. To be honest, I haven’t written it in several years now since becoming the Managing Editor here, mainly because it is research intensive and takes a good deal of time, which is in short supply for me these days. However, I am committed to resurrecting Skill Drills this year because I believe it can help Fantasy owners in myriad ways.

First and foremost, the column tends to unearth players either on their way towards a breakout season or heading into their decline phase through the use of sabermetrics. At the very least, as a reader of this column, you will learn how to use some of the deeper metrics available to identify and explain hitting and pitching trends that are not so obvious when using the surface metrics of Fantasy Baseball. Plus, we have some exciting “new” statistics coming down the pipeline via the StatCast system that we can explore to see whether they will help us with Fantasy Baseball.

Currently, I hope to write Skill Drills on a bi-weekly basis, alternating on Mondays with the publication of my Rest of Season Rankings. At least, that’s the plan as it stands now. Before we begin today’s statistical journey, I have one last message to give you. If there is a topic you’d like to see explored in Skill Drills, I am always open to your suggestions. Just email me at tim.m@rotoexperts.com with your suggestions or comments, and I will be happy to try and accommodate your request. I love a challenge, so please make sure to avail yourselves of this opportunity to have something you’d like to learn about explained.
