2018 Head-to-Head Points League Rankings!

2018 Head-to-Head Points League Rankings! premium

If you clicked on these rankings, you’re either a big fan of my work (thanks!), or you play in a head-to-head points league, which, of the two, is the more likely scenario. First of all, these are rankings for points leagues, not category leagues. Many people lump all head-to-head leagues together, and that is a big mistake. Category leagues are traditionally more like Roto formats, while points leagues are an entirely different beast.

In head-to-head points format, players are rewarded points for everything they do offensively, meaning you need to pay attention to every potential outcome, not just the usual 5×5 categories. Most points leagues also penalize batters for strikeouts, hitting into double plays, and sometimes errors, which will lower the value of players with high strikeout rates, as you will see with Joey Gallo, Javier Baez and others. Hitters are also rewarded a point for walks. Players who get on base, like Carlos Santana, get a boost; while those who don’t walk, like Rougned Odor, will suffer. In addition, you want to look out for batters who hit a lot of doubles (they count as two points). Also underrated in this format are those who play every single day. You may raise an eyebrow seeing how highly I rank Nick Markakis, Kole Calhoun and Jed Lowrie. However, they check off those boxes and always finish significantly higher in this format.
