2018 Corales Puntacana Resort DFS DraftKings Picks

With all eyes on the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, the average golf fan might overlook the fact that there is another PGA Tour event this weekend. Previously known as the Puerto Rico Open, this is a secondary tournament that features one of the weakest fields that we will see all season. The Corales Puntacana Championship is being played at the Corales Golf Club, which has hosted an event on the Web.com Tour for the past two seasons. It is a par-72 that stretches over 7,600 yards. We should expect very low scores this week as the previous champions here on the Web.com were 20 and 24 under.

The field consists of many rookies, veterans, and even a former NFL Quarterback. Yes, that is right. Tony Romo is making his PGA Tour debut this week in Puntacana. Though he was always a viable option as a DraftKings play for football, it might be a bit riskier rostering him in golf. Either way, it will be an interesting tournament with Romo in the field on this oceanside course.

DFS DraftKings Picks

Emiliano Grillo ($11,600) – Opening as the heavy favorite to win, Grillo is worth the price tag this week. He is far and away the best player in this field and is priced accordingly. Grillo has the best odds to make the cut at 89.92 percent on DailyRoto as well as the best odds to win (7.53 percent). Starting off your team with Grillo still leaves you with a $7,680 average to fill your last five spots which is very doable in this field. He is in great form with two of his last three events worldwide resulting in Top 10 finishes. Nobody in the $10K range on DraftKings is a better value than Grillo in the DailyRoto projection model.

Harris English ($8,700) – Priced outside of the Top 10 on DraftKings this week, Harris English makes for a very intriguing option. DailyRoto gives English a 3.15 percent chance to win the event which ranks fourth in this field. He’s already proven he can win on tour. English’s name sticks out in this field, especially being priced under $9,000. He can be looked at as an option in both cash games and tournaments.

Kevin Tway ($8,000) – Coming in as the third best overall value on DailyRoto this week is Kevin Tway. He has a little bit of course history here at Corales Golf Club, as he was in the field for the Web.com in 2016 and finished in a tie for 11th at -17. Kevin Tway’s distance off the tee could be an advantage this week as he is currently ranked seventh in driving distance this season. Tway was a pleasant surprise on tour last season making 21 of 27 cuts, which includes back-to-back Top 3 finishes in April.

Sam Ryder ($7,800) – This pick is based solely on course history. Ryder was in the field in both 2016 and 2017, and he finished inside the Top-15 in both appearances (T12, T2). Though he hasn’t had a stunning start to his 2018 season on the PGA Tour, his game is trending in the right direction. Ryder has made four of his last five cuts and finds himself in a much weaker field. DailyRoto rates him out well with a 72.59 percent chance to make the cut and an 11.76 percent chance to place inside the Top 10. Sam Ryder could be a sneaky tournament play this week.

Andrew Putnam ($6,900) – Last season on the Web.com Tour, Putnam finished eighth on the money list. He showed consistency last season missing just three cuts in 20 events with 11 Top 25 finishes. DailyRoto gives Putnam the best odds to make the cut out of anyone priced $7,200 or below (73.58 percent). Though Putnam has missed three consecutive cuts on tour, a field like this is a nice bounce back spot and he doesn’t have to do much to return value at just $6,900.
