Packers Randall Cobb and Titans Corey Davis Have Matchups to Exploit in Week Two

Packers Randall Cobb and Titans Corey Davis Have Matchups to Exploit in Week Two

Week Two Individual Matchups to Exploit

In Fantasy Football, a great way of getting a better sense of who will have big games in any given week is looking at the positional matchups. Wide receivers against below-average cornerbacks and secondaries have higher ceilings in such matchups. The same goes for running backs against linebackers that struggle in coverage and bad defensive fronts. Here are players that have great draws in Week Two.

WR/CB Matchups

Randall Cobb vs Mike Hughes

With Davante Adams drawing a tough matchup against Xavier Rhodes and a hobbled Aaron Rodgers, Cobb should absorb a lot of targets in Week Two. Cobb will face off against rookie cornerback Mike Hughes, who allowed 59 yards to the 49ers in Week One. Rodgers should press the issue against Hughes in Week Two.

Nelson Agholor vs M.J. Stewart

The Buccaneers entered the season with one of the worst secondaries in football. It might be actually worse now their two starting cornerbacks, Brent Grimes and Vernon Hargreaves, are both out. Agholor has a big opportunity against this group and will likely draw rookie cornerback M.J. Stewart. Agholor saw 10 targets in Week One, and I expect a great week from him.

Emmanuel Sanders vs Leon Hall

Sanders and Case Keenum look like a match made in heaven. They showed great chemistry in the preseason, and in Week One hooked up 10 times for 135 yards and a touchdown. The Raiders had the fewest pressures of any defense in Week One, and Keenum will be given ample time to find Sanders. In a juicy matchup against Leon Hall and the Raiders defense, Sanders will fill up the stat sheet again.

Dante Pettis vs Nevin Lawson

Marquise Goodwin is out this week with a quad injury, Dante Pettis steps into a perfect situation. Darius Slay should take on Pierre Garcon most of the time, leaving a nice opportunity for the rookie Pettis to prove his worth after a nice performance in Week One. Slay is one of the best cornerbacks in the league, and Pettis draws much softer coverage from Nevin Lawson. Pettis is an intriguing option in DFS and as a streamer for the week.

Larry Fitzgerald vs Nickell Robey-Coleman

The Rams defense is very scary when you think of wide receiver matchups. However, Fitzgerald may not have to worry about Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters as much in the slot. In Week One we saw Fitzgerald line up in the slot 92% of the time, which will possibly put him against Nickell Robey-Coleman instead. He is not a bad cornerback by any means, but the way to attack the Rams defense is through the middle of the field and Fitzgerald has the ability to do that. The Cardinals should be playing from behind and Fitzgerald will draw a healthy amount of targets in comeback mode.

Corey Davis vs Jonathan Joseph

Jonathan Joseph was one of the NFL’s worst cornerbacks last year. He allowed the 14th-most yards in coverage and could easily struggle against the extreme talents of Corey Davis. I expect Davis to see a lot of looks against this Texans secondary. especially with the loss of Delanie Walker. Davis is a good tournament target in DFS as he has the upside for a huge week.

RBs vs LBs

Christian McCaffrey vs ATL

Christian McCaffrey has a perfect matchup against the Atlanta Falcons this week. The Falcons allowed 108 receptions to running backs last year, which was the most of any defense. They also will be without their star middle linebacker Deion Jones, so McCaffrey should be able to expose their weak linebacker group.

James Conner vs K.C.

James Conner was able to really capitalize on his opportunity Week One with Le’Veon Bell holding out, and could even have a bigger outing against the Chiefs. Kansas City was gashed in the receiving game by running backs Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler, allowing 14 receptions, 189 yards, and one touchdown. Conner can get five-plus receptions and 20-plus carries against a below-average linebacker corps and suspect defensive line.

Chris Thompson vs IND

The Colts defense is one of the most unexperienced units in the NFL, and Thompson can expose them this week. The linebackers combined have less than just a few years of experience, and Thompson is one of the best receiving backs in the league. I expect Thompson to get a good amount of receptions and he could see a few more carries on the chance Adrian Peterson is slowed from his 26 carries last week.

David Johnson vs LAR

As I mentioned with Fitzgerald above, the Rams are going to have work funneled to the tight ends, slot wide receivers, and running backs in the passing game. We saw that last week especially with tight end Jared Cook getting nine receptions and running back Jalen Richard totaling nine as well. Johnson could show what made him so lethal in 2016 and flirt with 10 receptions in this game as the Cardinals will most likely be in comeback mod
