Recommended Defensive Streams for Week 14
The Fantasy Playoffs have arrived and the stress of streaming a defense is in full effect. Though they may not win or lose your matchup for you, they do serve a purpose. In the playoffs, every point counts. With the Fantasy Football playoffs in full swing, let’s take a look at a few defenses you can stream, and a few may actually still be on the waiver wire.
Let’s kick it off with the Detroit Lions’ defense. Owned in just 14% of Yahoo leagues, the Lions have two prime matchups against rookie quarterbacks in Weeks 14 and 15. This week, the Lions travel to Arizona to take on a Cardinals team that has been intercepted five times and sacked 10 in the last five games. In Week 15, the Lions face off against the Buffalo Bills who give up the most Fantasy points to defenses this season. Though the Bills look better under Josh Allen, they are still susceptible to turnovers. In the two games this season where Allen was forced to throw 30-plus times, he had two interceptions in each. The Lions are a great stream and you can use them for two consecutive weeks. Though the Lions won’t be winning a playoff game any time soon, they may be able to help your Fantasy team do so.
The Cleveland Browns host the struggling offense of the Carolina Panthers this Sunday. This past week, Cam Newton threw four interceptions for the first time since his rookie year. He has also thrown at least one interception in four straight games while riding a four-game losing streak. Though the Browns may go overlooked when considering them as a streaming option, they have been able to consistently force turnovers all season. They lead the league in fumble recoveries with 13, and are fourth in interceptions with 14. Consider the Browns as a legitimate streaming option to fill your spot on defense.
Another team who finds themselves in a good spot is the New York Jets. This week, the Jets go on the road to face the Buffalo Bills. As was mentioned above, this is an exploitable matchup. The Jets are coming off of a solid defensive performance last week against the Titans They totaled three sacks, and had a Trumaine Johnson (pictured above) interception returned for a touchdown early in the first quarter. Playing the Texans next week, this would just be a spot start and the Jets are available in 12% of Yahoo leagues. If options are running low, fire up the Jets as your starting defense this week.
No, this stream is not based off the matchup. Though the Saints give up the fewest amount of points to defenses this season, there is still something here. The last time these two teams faced each other, the Buccaneers had a sack and two fumble recoveries. One recovery was returned for a touchdown by Justin Evans. Last week vs. the Panthers, the Buccaneers piled up four sacks and four interceptions. They were disruptive all game long and only gave up 17 points. In leagues that penalize for allowing lots of points, they may not be your best option. However, the Buccaneers are worth a look if you are strapped and want turnover upside.
Another streaming option is the Atlanta Falcons. This week, the Falcons travel to Green Bay to play a Packers team that has given up 10 sacks in their last three games. The Falcons have been getting to the quarterback as of late, with at least two sacks in six of their last seven games. They scored their first defensive touchdown of the season last week against the Ravens on a strip sack that was returned for 74 yards. Just 16% owned in Yahoo leagues, the Falcons are worth a look this week in Green Bay.
