That’s over $10,000 in StatClash World Cup Fantasy league weekend prizes with $2,000-plus set to go to the Shootout winner. StatClash has already awarded $50,000 in World Cup Fantasy cash prizes.
Both are the same format, covering the games that take place on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, so the roster I provide below can be used for both.
If you haven’t played at StatClash.com before, make sure to check out the scoring rules because they are different across most sites. For StatClash, the main difference is that points are rewarded for shots on target and crosses. Those are two relevant categories that makes guys playing on the wings a little more valuable and that’s why we’ve seen Arjen Robben’s price surpass Robin van Persie’s.
The main news for these games is probably that the most expensive forward, Luis Suarez, is banned and will not be competing again in this World Cup. The one game we saw Uruguay play without Suarez, they were thoroughly beaten by Costa Rica.
Going through the odds for the four games:
Brazil is the biggest favorite of the weekend against Chile, and that game also projects to have the most goals. Colombia is the next best favorite against Suarez-less Uruguay. Many people are still undecided on Mexico, and Netherlands is the slight favorite there. Costa Rica against Greece is the biggest toss-up, but personally, I don’t think Greece can win this game unless they take it to penalties in a 0-0 game.
G, Keyor Navas, $23.00, Costa Rica
I believe it’s between Navas and David Ospina (COL) for this weekend’s only clean sheets. The Greece offense is suspect and Costa Rica has been playing solid defense against tougher opposition. Greece probably has the worst offense of the remaining 16 teams.
D, Pablo Armero, $18.25, Colombia
With Suarez out, Colombia is going to be extremely troublesome in this game. While he is only a forward, he changes the dynamics of the team. Armero will have the clean sheet possibility, but also he charges up the field a ton.
D, Cristian Gamboa, $16.25, Junior Diaz, $16.50, Costa Rica
The two wing backs have been great for this team in group stages and are great options in this fantasy format. Uruguay will likely go with Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan up front which only benefits these two. Forlan is not the same player as four years ago and they won’t have to play as far back without Suarez to worry about.
M, Cristian Rodriguez, $17.00, Uruguay
In Uruguay’s first game without Suarez, Rodriguez played in a more attacking role because he had to do more. I expect the same again, especially if they get down early which is entirely possible.
M, Neymar, $24.50, Brazil
He’s been one of the best players in this tournament and will be the reason Brazil advances. To be successful, it’s vital to have at least one of these players on your fantasy squad: Neymar, James Rodriguez and Arjen Robben. My choice is Neymar in what is expected to be the highest scoring match of the weekend.
M, Juan Cuadrado, $18.75, Colombia
While James Rodriguez has been Colombia’s best player, Cuadrado has been solid and that will continue in this game. Cuadrado has one goal and three assists and is a nuisance on the wings.
M, Victor Ibarbo, $15.50, Colombia
Ibarbo still hasn’t done much on the score sheet in this tournament, which I’m disappointed about, but he has the ability. He’s my least expensive player and at least has potential.
F-M, Hulk, $15.75, Brazil
Here’s another one of my cheaper choices and it’s Hulk. He played well against Cameroon and Neymar called that Brazil’s best game of the tournament. While Hulk hasn’t scored yet, it’s not because he isn’t able to.
F, Joel Campbell, $16.50, Costa Rica
Campbell was a beast in the opener, but teams started focusing on him and kind of shut him out. Still, his speed and skill combination are going to be a major problem for this Greece back line. It’s just a wonder how defensive Greece will play.
F, Wesley Sneijder, $17.75, Netherlands
Sneijder may not be in the same class as his attacking teammates, but he’s still consistent on this squad. He usually gets a couple shots per game and he also takes the Dutch’s corners. In this same situation in 2010, he propelled his team to a win over Brazil. Maybe he can do that again.
