Fantasy Spin of Christine Michael Trade in Final 2015 Fantasy Football Rankings

RotoExperts Staff September 7, 2015 1:30PM EDT
This will be the last 2015 Fantasy Football rankings update… hopefully. I can’t imagine any other major news/changes between now and Thursday night kickoff. The latest is that Christine Michael was traded to the Dallas Cowboys and Terrance West heads to the Titans. Fantasy owners all scrambling over Michael, but everyone needs to breathe a bit. Michael is at the bottom of the depth chart with Lance Dunbar. Yes, Michael has potential, and I was a big fan of his out of college, but unless Jospeh Randle or Darren McFadden get hurt (or just stink it up), Michael isn’t going to see many chances. Don’t drop anyone of value for him. To give you an idea of guys in his range (besides your looking at my rankings… hello) think backups such as Knile Davis, Matt Jones, Ronnie Hillman, etc. Of those, I’m likely only dropping Jones unless I own Alfred Morris. Don’t go crazy, blow your top waiver spot or spend a ton of your FAAB. If anything, send the Joseph Randle owner trades offers and buy low now.

As for West, he’s simply another backup, but he has a clearer path than Michael. David Cobb is on the IR (eligible to return) so you can drop Cobb in redraft leagues. West has failed to impress at the NFL level, but the same goes for Sankey. West could steal a share of the work and even turn this into a 50/50 situation before long. I want Sankey of the two (can’t believe I just said that, ugh *puking now*) but I don’t trust either as anything more than a RB4. Overall, both trades made more waves in the Fantasy world and on Twitter than they will for actual Fantasy teams… again, unless injuries happen in front of either player.

Previous Update: Boom goes the dynamite. Sorry NFL, Tom Brady is back. The courts have overturned Tom Brady’s suspension. That’s right… Tom Brady will be playing Week 1 and all 16 games for the Patriots. The question on Fantasy Football owners’ minds is, “What do the words ‘Tom Brady suspension overturned’ mean for me?”

For Brady, he’s back in the Top 10,  at No. 7 for me. Remember, even as good as Brady and the Patriots were last year, he still finished as QB9 behind Ryan Tannehill, Matt Ryan and Ben Roethlisberger. I’ll take Brady’s reliability over Tanny and Big Ben, but Ryan stays ahead of him for me. As for Rob Gronkowski, he was always the best tight end. It was worth taking him in the first round of PPR leagues, and that doesn’t change now. In fact, it likely brings the doubters back around and bumps his ADP a tad. He’s still at 12th overall in standard and 11th in PPR in the rankings.

The running game is what it always was: led by LeGarrette Blount… after his suspension… we think. It’s the Patriots. I’ll take Blount as my RB3, but like heck I want the headache of dealing with Bill Belichick and his running back nonsense. You’ll see I have him at RB25 in standard, but the Jonas Gray noise is worth some concern. In fact, I have Gray as a RB5 just in case he gets another crack this year.

At receiver, Julian Edelman sees a slight bump. He’s barely outside the Top 20 receivers in standard, but as always, he’s one of the few receivers that gets a nice boost in PPR (WR16). After that though, there are too many questions, including the health of Brandon LaFell and Danny Amendola, plus the addition of Reggie Wayne. I’ll still take LaFell as a flier based on his potential with Brady at quarterback (watch LaFell play Week 1, ha) and maybe even make my last pick on Wayne just in case he has some gas left and Brady helps him find it.

No matter what you do in your draft, everyone who took a gamble on Brady already is loving life just as much as the Patriots and Brady are right now.
