We had (somewhat) of a big trade on Tuesday when the Saints sent Adrian Peterson to the Cardinals and proceeded to cut Chris Johnson. I expect Peterson to take over the CJ0K role, which is good for about 10-12 carries a game. In fact, Johnson had more than 12 carries just once when he carried the ball 13 times in the overtime win over the 49ers in Week 4. Johnson struggled to get any momentum, averaging just 2.5 YPC, but he is not alone. Andre Ellington (3.8 YPC) is the only Cardinals running back to average more than three yards per carry.
Yes, Arizona has been terribly inefficient running the football, largely in part to having a terrible offensive line. In a limited role with the Saints, Peterson averaged 3.0 YPC, and that was with a much better offensive line. For those hoping he can at least find the end zone, he could, but the Cardinals have thrown the ball inside the red zone more than any team in the league. In fact, Johnson did not have a carry inside the red zone this season, while no Cardinals RB has more than one carry inside the 5-yard line. AP now has some buzz around his name, so I would advocate trying to sell him now. Peterson was this generation’s best running back and Fantasy owners are hoping he still has something left in the tank. However, the safe bet is on him being washed up and to sell him now. There’s a chance I am wrong, but I would flip him for a more trustworthy player if given the opportunity.
