Three Ways The Passing Revolution Could Alter Fantasy Football In 2019 Last season, the NFL saw a total of  17,671 pass attempts or 34.5 for each team per game. In 2017, that number was 34.2. Alex Smith is a Sneaky Play for Week 13

Brandon Murchison November 29, 2016 11:53AM EDT

Quarterback

Alex Smith @ Atlanta Falcons

Most owners in the Fantasy community roll their eyes when the name Alex Smith is mentioned. He is the epitome of a game manager, and a quarterback who typically won’t win you any weeks. That alone makes him the perfect Sneaky Play for Week 13, when he will be matched up against the league’s worst defense in terms of points allowed to quarterbacks.

The Falcons’ defense is usually playing with nice lead, which makes the opposing offense take to the air to catch up for a win. That will be the case this week for the Chiefs’ offense. Smith has just one 300-yard performance this season, which came in Week 1, and he has just four total games over 20 points. So why lean on him in the all-important Week 13? This Chiefs team will be playing from behind, forcing the ball into Smith’s hand more. With the emergence of Tyreek Hill, this passing attack has the ability to be a little more explosive. Also, don’t rule out the possibility of Smith providing points with his legs, as well. I can see him finishing the game closing in on 300 yards with two TDs, and adding in 40 rushing yards with a possible TD. He’s a great QB to stream this week, and a player that will allow you to build a stud lineup in DFS.

Running Back

Chris Ivory vs. Denver

Whenever you see the Denver defense on the schedule, most owners cringe and doubt whether to put their player into the lineup. But over the last four weeks, Denver’s run defense has been the fourth-worst in the league in points allowed, meaning that they can be had. For Week 13, Chris ivory should be the beneficiary of the matchup, as the Jaguars’ offense will look to stay in the game and avoid the tough pass defense. Everyone knows the limitations of Blake Bortles in the first half of games, which will make Ivory all the more important this week to keep the Jaguars in the game. While Ivory hasn’t filled the stat sheet over the last couple of weeks, he has shown improvement both rushing and receiving. I would expect to see Ivory total 20 touches, rush for around 90 yards and add in a touchdown. He’s a viable Flex play in Week 13, and a DFS player that will have very low ownership.

Wide Receiver

Quincy Enunwa vs. Indianapolis Colts

As much flack as Ryan Fitzpatrick seems to get from people that cover the league, he sure can make this passing attack for the Jets go, which is great for Fantasy owners. After struggling for a couple of weeks after coming back from the bye, Enunwa showed back up in Week 12 with 109 yards and a score. I would expect that trend to continue in Week 13, with the Colts coming to New York with a defense that has been one of the NFL’s worst over the last four weeks. And with Luck coming back for the Colts, this game has the makings of a back and forth affair. Fitzpatrick has seemed to click with Enunwa, and with Vontae Davis likely to shadow Brandon Marshall, he could be in for a high target day. Look for Enunwa to bring in seven catches for another 100-yard day and a score. Plug him into the WR3/Flex role for the week, and for DFS purposes his ownership will likely be low in Week 13.

Tight End

Jermaine Gresham vs. Washington Redskins

Don’t look now, but Jermaine Gresham is beginning to become Fantasy-relevant again. He has scored TDs in two straight games, and has averaged four catches a game. While these are not gaudy stats at all, the touchdowns are vitally important when streaming your TE. In Week 13, the Cards will be facing a defense that has been second-worst in points allowed at the position over the last four weeks. With the offense beginning to be more run based with short passes, Gresham has been getting more looks. Things are shaping for another good game from him this week, as the Cards could be locked in a scoring battle with the Redskins. I envision Gresham finishing this game with four catches for 60 yards and getting yet another score. He’s easily worth consideration if you stream the position, and a DFS option that no one will be on.

Kicker

Dustin Hopkins @ Arizona Cardinals

Speaking of the Cards/Skins affair, Dustin Hopkins will be a kicker to plug in for Week 13. The Washington offense could easily gains yards in this game, but the opportunity for field goal attempts will be there for Hopkins, which is all you’re really looking for from the position. Hopkins finishing with two FGs and three XPs is reasonable, which makes him a guy worth starting. He’ll also be a cheap DFS option.

Defense

Green Bay Packers vs. Houston Texans

The Green Bay defense has been downright awful for a while now, but so has Brock Osweiler, making this a little more of an even contest. With the Packers playing for their playoff lives, and against this QB in particular, I can see the defense putting together a decent effort. My gut is telling me that Osweiler throws a pick six. To that, add in a few sacks, and you have a very Sneaky Play at defense. He could be a cash winner in DFS for Week 13.
