Three Ways The Passing Revolution Could Alter Fantasy Football In 2019 Last season, the NFL saw a total of  17,671 pass attempts or 34.5 for each team per game. In 2017, that number was 34.2. The average team scored 21.7 points per game in 2017, while the average team scored 23.3 points per game in…

Big Week Six Ahead for Buccaneers Passing Game | Revenge for Raiders Marshawn Lynch

Big Week Six Ahead for Buccaneers Passing Game | Revenge for Raiders Marshawn Lynch
Scott Engel Managing Director October 8, 2018 5:37PM EDT

Scott Engel begins looking ahead to Week Six.

-Thursday’s Eagles-Giants matchup has an over/under of 44 and I am definitely taking the over. This should be another high-scoring Thursday night matchup. I am mainly looking for Nelson Agholor to get untracked, as Carson Wentz has started to settle in more and the Eagles should find ways to get their No. 2 WR freed up.

-David Johnson has regained some favor over the past two weeks, but he faces a stiff challenge against Minnesota’s third-ranked run defense in Week Six. The Vikings have allowed 65.8 rushing yards per game and are the only NFL team to not have surrendered a rushing score. Explore trade options for Johnson this week if you have him, using the sales pitch that he has at least reclaimed high-end RB2 value.

-Bears-Dolphins in Miami has an over/under of 42 and I am taking the under. If you have Matthew Stafford or Drew Brees off, I would not use Mitch Trubisky as a streaming replacement. Miami has allowed just one TD pass with five interceptions in two home games so far this season.

-It will be interesting to see the further evolution of the Indianapolis backfield as they travel to face the Jets in Week Six. I would add or hold onto Robert Turbin, who may start to see more of an expanded role this week, at least as a goal-line runner. Nyheim Hines definitely has carved out a Fantasy flex role as a PPR specialist and bigger games are ahead as he gets open in space more frequently. If Marlon Mack cannot stay healthy, Turbin could become the Colts’ lead runner with Hines as his pass-catching complement. A healthy Mack could turn this scenario into a true committee, though. Even in that scenario Hines will have some PPR appeal.

-The Tampa Bay-Atlanta game has an implied total of 57.5 and that is not even the highest of the week, as Patriots-Chiefs is even higher. Still, this can be a week when you start Jameis Winston for a player on a bye, as defense and lack of a running game will dictate high passing volume, especially in this matchup. Pick up Cameron Brate for sure, as he went largely unclaimed during Tampa Bay’s Week Five bye and he has scored in two consecutive games after totaling 14 TD receptions in the previous two seasons, working mostly with Winston.

-The Raiders face the Seahawks in London in Week Six, which sets the stage for the ultimate #RevengeGame. Marshawn Lynch is going to bounce back in a big way vs. the team on which he may have heavily paved his eventual path to the Hall of Fame. Lynch has showed he is not done, but he was definitely finished in Seattle after the 2015 season. I don’t think the Raiders will be throwing from the one-yard line this week. Lynch is a must-start in Week Six. Adrenaline and emotion will help fuel a good outing.

-If the Rams are without Cooper Kupp and Brandin Cooks this upcoming week, look for Jared Goff to adjust and find a mix of established targets and boosted secondary pass-catching options against Denver’s disappointing and middling 16th-ranked pass defense, which has actually looked worse than that rank recently. Expect a heavy share of target share for Robert Woods, and for Josh Reynolds and TE Tyler Higbee to step forward. Reynolds may be an interesting DFS value.

-As indicated, Chiefs-Patriots has an outrageous implied total of 59. Many starting Fantasy options are obvious, and this can also be a week when you see more big plays from Josh Gordon, although he is more of a WR3 type now. He is a niche big-play target in the Patriots passing game instead of being the clear prime guy he was in Cleveland. It should be another good week for Sony Michel against the Chiefs’ 22nd-ranked run defense, which is allowing 115.6 rushing yards per game. In fact, the Patriots may slow down the game with some ball control in an effort to keep Patrick Mahomes off the field as much as possible. Michel and James White are must-starts again. Mahomes has passed every test so far, and now he gets another one as Bill Belichick tries to scheme cleverly against him. But the Patriots lack the defensive personnel to truly challenge Mahomes, who should lead a lot of DFS stacks in Week Six.

-Hopefully, you learned a lesson about weather in Week Five. There was widespread Fantasy panic about weather affecting the Chiefs offense when it started raining very hard in Kansas City in the morning. Yet the forecast was merely for 5 mph winds and the rain was expected to fade away by the second half. Performances in the Chiefs-Jaguars game were not affected by the weather at all. All rain forecasts are not the same. Get the details straight before you start worrying too much or consider any lineup moves.
