Week 10 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups: Rays Nate Eovaldi is Back Again

Week 10 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups: Rays Nate Eovaldi is Back Again
Inside Injuries June 1, 2018 3:18PM EDT

Week 10 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups

Max Stassi C, HOU

Owned in 11% of CBS Sports Leagues

With Brian McCann going down, Stassi has gotten somewhat regular at-bats for the Astros, and he’s done plenty with them. He has posted a .294/.362/.518 slashline, while posting solid fly ball and hard hit rates. McCann, who is dealing with a sore knee, still doesn’t have a timetable for his return and is an Elevated Injury Risk according to Inside Injuries. So Stassi should continue to be a piece of the puzzle for the Astros for the very near future. Given how thin the catcher position, Stassi’s power potential from the minor leagues and peripheral numbers in the big leagues prove that he’s a worthy pickup in deeper leagues.

Brandon Nimmo OF, NYM

Owned in 34% of CBS Sports Leagues

With all the injuries and negativity that have set in upon the Mets of late, Nimmo has been one heck of a bright spot. He’s been getting to play regularly with both Yoenis Cespedes and Juan Lugares on the DL. Nimmo has been starting everyday, and he’s been taking advantage, posting a .304/.418/.625 slash line since May 13. Nimmo has show great plate discipline, which has earned him the lead off spot in the Mets order. On top of it all, he’s added five homers and five stolen bases in 107 at-bats. Even when Cespedes returns, Nimmo might take on everyday outfield duties with the struggles of Jay Bruce and Michael Conforto, should he keep this up.

Jose Urena SP, MIA

Owned in 20% of CBS Sports Leagues

Based off of his peripheral numbers, Urena was a massive overachiever in 2017. He is now a massive underachiever in 2018. All of his peripheral and predictive numbers have come down significantly, but his ERA has risen from 3.82 to 4.41. With a 3.98 FIP and 51.7 ground ball rate, Urena has the looks of an above average starter. If he can achieve some sort of positive regression in his raw numbers, he could become a solid fantasy contributor. With all of the injuries hitting big time starting pitchers (Noah Syndergaard being the latest), a guy like Urena could be a nice under the radar pickup in deeper leagues.

Nathan Eovaldi SP, SD

Owned in 16% of CBS Sports Leagues

Eovaldi made his first Major League start since 2016 Wednesday night, and it was a gem. The hard-throwing righty, who is returning from a pair of elbow surgeries, pitched six no-hit innings. He is still getting fully stretched out, as he was pulled after 70 pitches, but this return was very encouraging obviously. His fastball velocity averaged 98.2 mph, though he did only strikeout four. It’s unclear what exactly to expect form Eovaldi moving forward, and he remains a High Injury Risk according to Inside Injuries given his recent history of elbow problems. However, it’s tough to overlook Eovaldi’s talent, especially given how good he looked Wednesday night. He’s worth a flier pickup in Fantasy.

Zach Britton RP, BAL

Owned in 57% of CBS Sports Leagues

While it’s early in his rehab stint, you’re going to need to snag Britton now if you want a chance at him given his ownership percentage. It’s a risky move given the Achilles injury. He is still a High Injury Risk according to Inside Injuries, but the buzz is back surrounding him after he struck out the side in his first rehab appearance. If you have a DL spot to stash him in, it’s probably worth thinking long and hard about making the move. Britton was banged up throughout all of last season. But he still managed to be one of the better relievers in all of baseball after posting a historic year in 2016.

With how bad Baltimore has been, Britton will almost certainly be showcased by the Orioles for contenders looking to make a deadline move. If he’s healthy and closing for a contender down the stretch, he’ll be a big time fantasy asset. The stash is worth the low cost of the gamble for now, if you can still scoop him up.
