Fantasy Football: (Weekend Update) Week 16 FLEX Rankings

RotoExperts Staff December 20, 2014 2:20PM EDT

Week 16 FLEX Rankings: Injury Scenarios & Ranks Update

So, Garion Thorne and I sat down to discuss the different injury scenarios surrounding DeMarco Murray, Julio Jones and T.Y. Hilton, mainly, what to do whether they’re in or out in Week 16: how will it affect Harry Douglas, Roddy White, Donte Moncrief, Hakeem Nicks, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar? We also covered how the returning C.J. Spiller will impact Fred Jackson, whether Matt Asiata and Jonathan Stewart are MUST STARTS and what to expect from Jeremy Hill & Andre Williams in tough matchups?

Week 16 Ranks: FLEX | QB | RB | WR | TE & D/ST
Week 16: Picks, Injuries & Game Previews
Week 16: Murray/Julio/Hilton Injury Scenarios + RB Start/Sit

Julian Edelman is out with a concussion. Didn’t see that coming. Brandon LaFell moves up from WR19 to WR16 against a porous Jets pass defense. Danny Amendola slots in one spot ahead of Damaris Johnson at WR47. Amendola presents a decent floor in PPR scoring if you’re simply searching for a non-zero player. Like Hollywood Mike Clay pointed out, Tim Wright will see time in the slot too. I’ve inserted Wright just behind Anthony Fasano in the TE rankings; against the Steelers, Fasano is in an excellent position to find pay dirt. Pittsburgh has allowed a TD to a tight end in six of seven games.

Now LeGarrette Blount is out too, Jesus. The Pats’ backfield is the Caramel Secret of Fantasy, but logic would point to Jonas Gray getting another crack between the tackles. He could see 12-20 carries, depending on game flow. While he’s a risky proposition, a running back that could receive his workload needs to be considered as a credible FLEX play. Now, the Jets are a difficult matchup, so Gray is getting put on the tier of volume runners with tough Week 16 opponents: Gray is RB23, one spot behind Andre Williams and one ahead of Latavius Murray. Don’t anticipate Shane Vereen’s role altering, though. He remains frozen as RB33. His workload has upside, certainly, but it’s always of high variance and lacks reliability.

DeAndre Hopkins has been removed from the rankings because of a hamstring problem. I’ve bumped Andre Johnson into WR2 territory while Damaris Johnson sneaks into the Top 50 at receiver. Expect Andre to soak up the majority of targets from Case Keenum and pile up points through attrition. Darmaris will act as the primary deep threat but isn’t anything more than a desperation home run start. If you’re in the Fantasy championship, you really should have better alternatives. However keep Damaris on your radar in daily formats. The Ravens persist as the most generous defense to opposing WRs and sit in the top five of yards per completion against. Damaris Johnson is selling for the minimum on DraftKings ($3,000) and a song on FanDuel ($4,500).

UPDATE: DeAndre Hopkins is active against the Ravens. I still prefer Andre Johnson as Hopkins’ injury worries me. I’ve reinserted Hopkins at WR24; Johnson stays at WR17

QUICK READS

Normally in this section, I run through selective HOT STARTS for shallow and deep leagues alike. However, this is the Fantasy championship; you need to know about every player, every injury, every lineup decision. So, Jake Ciely and I talked through all of it. If you’re wondering whether you can trust Julio Jones or T.Y Hilton with a title hanging in the balance, we have it covered. If DeMarco Murray plays, where does he fall in the RB rankings? What about Joesph Randle and Lance Dunbar if Murray’s out? BOOM!!! It’s all in here. Plus, irrational Eddie Royal projections and a lot more.

Note: If Julio Jones is inactive or exposed as a decoy pregame, Harry Douglas moves up to WR17/FLEX36
