Fantasy Baseball Waiver Tips from insideinjuries.com

Scott Schebler OF, CIN

Owned in 45% of CBS Leagues

Schebler began a rehab assignment Wednesday night after missing time with a shoulder injury that has cost him a little over two weeks. Schebler has an Elevated Overall Injury Risk, but his Health Performance Factor is now above average, and he hasn’t had any reported setbacks. He should be back by the start of next week.

When he is activated, he won’t see any more competition for at-bats in the Cincinnati outfield with Jesse Winkler out for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery and Adam Duvall now in Atlanta after being traded before Tuesday’s deadline. Schebler has posted an .821 OPS while being part of a platoon and getting most of his at-bats against righties, but don’t fear the uptick in chances against left-handers, as he’s hitting .351 against southpaws so far this season. If you need an outfielder for the stretch run, Schebler is a great option.

Brad Brach RP, ATL

Owned in 25% of CBS Leagues

Brach was dealt to the Braves on Monday ahead of the deadline, and he should factor into the late inning discussion in Atlanta. Brach is having an uneven year, but his sky high .366 BABIP against, as well as a friendlier set of foes than the gauntlet of AL East lineups he had to face with the Orioles, say that he should see positive regression.

With Arodys Vizcaino on the DL and not close to a return, A.J. Minter has been closing out games for the Braves and will keep the job for now. However, should Brach rebound in his new environment, his experience closing out games could put him in contention for save opportunities with his new club, especially should the more inexperienced Minter falter. And should he grab a hold of the closer role, he’ll have plenty more opportunities in Atlanta than he did in Charm City. He’s a speculative add for now in most leagues, but is also of immediate value in hold leagues.

Derek Holland SP, SF

Owned in 26% of CBS Leagues

Holland is quietly having his best year in some time, pitching to a 3.90 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in his first year with the Giants. With Johnny Cueto set to get Tommy John surgery and Jeff Samardzija still on the DL with a shoulder injury, Holland is locked into a rotation spot for the remainder of the season. Holland is posting the best swinging-strike rate of his career and is striking out more than a batter an inning, making him a useful Fantasy starter, especially at home in the pitcher-friendly confines of AT&T Park. He has one-start week appeal in deeper leagues at this point, which is not something many would have predicted going into the year.

Tyler White 1B, HOU

Owned in 2% of CBS Leagues

With Jose Altuve on the DL, the Astros recalled White, who should get some playing time at first for the Astros while Yuli Gurriel shifts to second. In his first start on Sunday, White went 3-3 with a solo homer, a walk and 2 runs scored and is now 5-for-12 overall in four games. White , 27, has raked at the minor league level consistently and has shown the ability to do so against Major League pitching as well. His time might be limited, as Altuve is could return by late next week. However, don’t expect the Astros to rush Altuve, who still has a High Overall Injury Risk due to his recent knee injury, given their comfortable lead in the AL West. White may not be a long-term answer, but he should be around to help you out enough if you need some help at first base.

Leonys Martin OF, CLE

Owned in 23% of CBS Leagues

Martin was just dealt to the Indians as they look to sure up a worn down outfield that has been riddled with injuries. With Tyler Naquin on the 10-Day DL with a stress reaction in his hip (High overall Injury Risk) and Lonnie Chisenhall now on the 60-Day, the Tribe needed another outfielder badly. Martin’s numbers don’t pop off the page and he may lose some at-bats to Rajai Davis, but the veteran is solid and will have increased run production chances in an Indians lineup that is much, much better than that of his old club, the Tigers. Martin is and should be on the radar on a lot of deeper leagues.
