Injury Updates on LeSean McCoy of Bills, Jordan Reed of Redskins

Scott Engel Managing Director September 11, 2017 12:33PM EDT

Allen Robinson WR, Jaguars: ACL tear

Robinson’s season is over after suffering a left ACL tear. It was a non-contact injury following his first reception of the game, where caught a 17-yard pass on a 3rd down play. Leonard Fournette’s stock will continue to rise following his 100-yard day and with the loss of Robinson, Marqise Lee and Allen Hurns will become the top options in the passing game.

Kevin White WR, Bears: collarbone/shoulder blade fracture

After two lost seasons, Kevin White may again be faced with a season-ending injury. White missed his entire rookie season with a stress fracture in his left tibia and then played in just four games last season before going down with an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture and ligament damage. Because of these injuries, he entered the season at an Elevated Injury Risk. Now White is facing a significant shoulder injury. Most reports say it’s a collarbone fracture, but a shoulder blade fracture is also a possibility. Either way, it isn’t good. White may need surgery, and even if he doesn’t it could end his season. White will undergo further tests to confirm the diagnosis and come up with a recovery plan.  The Bears have a fragile quarterback situation with Mike Glennon under center, and now they have lost their top two receivers (Cam Meredith suffered a torn ACL during the preseason). The team will look to Kendall Wright and Deonte Thompson as their top receiving options. Markus Wheaton remains out with a broken pinkie finger.

LeSean McCoy RB, Bills: hand injury

Keep a watch on LeSean McCoy’s status. Photo Credit: AP – Jeffery Barnes

A hand injury forced McCoy out of the game on Sunday, but he ended up missing just one series. McCoy was handed the ball on a goal-line play and was driven into the turf. He then jogged off of the field shaking his hand. McCoy later said that his thumb went numb and he was concerned about ball security. He looked okay when he returned and finished out the game, but he will likely undergo further tests to determine if there is any significant damage to the thumb. McCoy had an impressive 159-yard day, and as the Bills’ workhorse back they really need him out there. It looks like he escaped without a serious injury that will sideline him for Week 2, but this is an injury worth monitoring.

C.J. Fiedorowicz TE, Texans: concussion

C.J. Fiedorowicz suffered a concussion on Sunday and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. This is becoming a concerning problems for Fiedorowicz, who also was diagnosed with a concussion during the 2016 season and earlier this year in the preseason. That’s three concussions in less than a year, so don’t be surprised if this one keeps him out more than two weeks.  With the Thursday night game this week, it is highly unlikely that he can get cleared in time to play against the Bengals.

Benny Cunningham RB, Bears: knee injury

Cunningham was carted to the locker room on Sunday after going down with a knee injury. He will undergo more tests on Monday to determine what exactly the injury is, but for now Inside Injuries has calculated a grade 2 knee sprain. While Cunningham is sidelined, Tarik Cohen will get more playing time behind Jordan Howard.

Danny Amendola WR, Patriots: concussion

Amendola was quickly ruled out after leaving the Week 1 game to be evaluated for a concussion. He will now have to clear protocol before returning to the field. Amendola had already taken quite a few big hits before leaving with a head injury and was very involved in the offense now that Julian Edelman is out for the year (torn ACL). With a history of concussions, Amendola is facing a difficult task of getting cleared in 10 days so he can suit up in Week 2. He is now a High Injury Risk, and his aggressive, fearless style of play makes him more susceptible to future concussions or other injuries because he seeks out contact and takes many big hits.

Danny Woodhead RB, Ravens: hamstring strain

Woodhead entered the Week 1 game as a High Injury Risk due to his preseason hamstring strain, and on the Ravens’ opening drive he pulled up grabbing the back of his leg. He now faces a potentially lengthy absence. Right now the Inside Injuries algorithm is calculating a grade 2 hamstring strain, which comes with a five week Optimal Recovery Time. That means he could be healthy in mid to late October. Buck Allen looked solid when Woodhead went down and is worth a look in most Fantasy leagues.

Jordan Reed TE, Redskins: toe fracture

This isn’t necessarily a new injury, but it’s a development that we did not previously know about as Reed battles big toe problems. Reed missed most of training camp due to a big toe sprain that began last season and continued to linger. With new cleats and orthotics he was showing improvement, but we have said all along that his toe will be a concern throughout the season. Now he is also dealing with a fracture to his big toe that he will try to play through. Reed will most likely miss games at some point because of this injury, and it will certainly affect him on the field. He will not be able to accelerate or jump as effectively. In addition to his toe injury, concussions remain a concern. He also missed time last season with a grade 3 AC shoulder sprain.
