Today in the Executive Decisions video series we take a look at Eagles RB LeGarrette Blount and Patriots RB Mike Gillislee. Blount was the early down back for the Patriots in 2016, and my goodness, he did not disappoint. Blount scored 18 rushing touchdowns to lead the NFL. Blount carried the football 299 times. Blount had a career year with over 1100 rushing yards and 4 games with 100 or more yards. The Philadelphia Eagles liked what they saw and hope that LeGarrette will carry that same momentum into his 30 year-old season. The Eagles upgraded their passing attack, adding Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffery in the offseason. Blount will not be relied upon to carry the ball another 299 times, but the Eagles expect him to get his money in the red zone. Blount’s current NFFC ADP is 104 overall. That makes him a ideal bench running back on Fantasy Football teams. If you own Blount this season you will be happy to have him during the bye weeks. He will surely come in handy.
Mike Gillislee takes his goal line talents from the depths of the AFC East to the top of the division. Gillislee, like Blount, was used as a goal line specialist in 2016. Gillislee only carried the ball 100 times last season but he averaged close to six yards a pop. Gillislee scored 8 touchdowns as the backup to LeSean McCoy. This season in New England Gillislee is the favorite to hold down the role that Blount vacated. As Fantasy Football owners we all know how tricky the Patriots backfield can be. James White and Dion Lewis will be responsible for third down and pass-catching duties. The problem is the Patriots also signed Rex Burkhead in the offseason. Gillislee is a player I like in the right spot on draft day. I have seen him go as high as round 5. Do not make that mistake. But if you see him hanging around in the 7th round make an Executive Decision.
