The Fantasy Football Industry Is Down on Van Jefferson: But Should They Be? Van Jefferson (LAR) was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft only a few short weeks after the team shipped Brandin Cooks (LAR) out of town. Injury Makes Michael Thomas a Major Week 16 Risk

Inside Injuries December 24, 2017 10:47AM EDT

Michael Thomas

Thomas was a late addition to the injury report on Saturday with a hamstring strain. He is in the Saints’ game-plan for the Falcons, but he will need to test out his hamstring before the game. It is incredibly risky for him to play today as even a mild hamstring needs two weeks to heal. As a wide receiver, his ability to accelerate is very important, and this is greatly affected by the hamstring. If active, he will be a very risky Fantasy option.

White injured his ankle last week against the Steelers and is not expected to play today, leaving the Patriots very thin at running back. Rex Burkhead is already sidelined after suffering a knee sprain. White practiced on a limited basis this week but needs more time. Our algorithm calculated a 2-4 week Optimal Recovery Time for his injury, so it is best for the Patriots to sit him until the playoffs.

Leonard Fournette

A quad injury forced Leonard Fournette to miss Week 15, but he practiced in full all week and will play today. Since injuring his ankle in October, Fournette has become a much more inconsistent player. That will continue with the addition of his quad injury. Even so, he’s a hard guy to keep out of lineups. While his quad injury could affect his power and quickness, he is still a solid RB1 in a good matchup with the 49ers.

Joe Mixon

Mixon cleared concussion protocol early in the week and is good to go. With an Above Average HPF (Health Performance Factor) according to our algorithm, he should be in the RB2 conversation again this week.

Chris Hogan

One week after returning from his shoulder injury, Hogan was a surprise inactive in week 15. He was limited at practice again this week is expected to miss the game again today. Our algorithm still has Hogan as an Elevated Injury Risk.

Julio Jones

Once again, Julio Jones is banged up but expected to play. Last season, it was his foot and toe that slowed him down, and this year it has been his knee and ankle. Jones missed practice Wednesday and Thursday but returned on Friday to get in some light work. Despite three very slow weeks, Jones needs to be in all Fantasy lineups. He could be in and out of the game due to his ankle injury, and his left thumb was also taped up at practice. But he has so much upside that he can’t be left on the bench, even when he’s far from 100 percent.

Keenan Allen

Allen tweaked his back on Saturday and had to be helped off the field, but he has been a full participant at practice this week and isn’t even on the injury report. Despite the Chargers’ confidence that he is healthy, our algorithm shows that he is a High Injury Risk. He has been great over the last five weeks, so he needs to be plugged into all Fantasy lineups. Just know that he comes with some risk.

Allen Hurns

Hurns has not played since suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 10. He finally returned to practice this week and is officially listed as questionable. Hurns admitted that he won’t be 100 percent for a while, and our analytics agree with his statement. He remains a High Injury Risk with a Below Average HPF. Hurns is not expected to play, so keep him on your bench.

Samaje Perine

Perine will be a game-time decision today. He injured his groin at practice Thursday then missed practice on Friday. With an Optimal Recovery Time of 2-3 weeks, he shouldn’t play today. His Injury Risk is Elevated and Health Performance Factor is Below Average. It won’t take much to tweak his groin again and make the injury worse. Groin injuries are especially tough on running backs who rely on power and quick changes in direction.
