Pick Up These Receivers as Playoff Plays in Weeks 14-16

    RotoExperts Staff December 2, 2016 12:33PM EST

Congrats, you qualified for your Fantasy playoffs. Now, take a deep breath, put your feet up, and make some savvy moves before other managers even consider them.

If you’ve already clinched, and playoff positioning is the last piece of your Fantasy puzzle, then it’s time for you to look ahead to Weeks 14-16. That’s when these wide receiver pickups come into play. And if you’ve earned that Top 2 bye, you’ll be able to sit back and relax in Week 14 with these players already in tow.

Let’s look ahead as those three weeks (14-16) are when the money is made in season-long leagues. These wideouts have quality match ups in at least two of the three playoff weeks, making them ideal boom-or-bust plays. They’re all low-end WR2 or WR3s depending on the week, but adding them this weekend, rather than the week of the games, makes them far more easily accessible.

Plus, if you happen to be an owner whose playoff hopes were dinged when A.J. Green went down with a hamstring injury (I’m one of them), these receivers can help ease the pain as positive playoff plays in Weeks 14 through 16. (Note: Defense rankings are compiled from stats Weeks 1-12.)

Depend on DeSean Jackson Down the Stretch

DeSean Jackson is coming off his best game of the season, racking up four receptions for 118 yards and TD on Thanksgiving versus the Cowboys — his second straight week with a touchdown. He looks to finally be healthy and that’s perfect timing for any playoff-bound owner, as the wide receiver’s future matchups look bright.

Jackson tops this list with three Top 10 matchups waiting for him in Weeks 14-16. First, he faces his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, who give up the tenth-most points to opposing wide receivers, including at least 90 yards to No. 1 wideouts in Weeks 10 (Julio Jones), 11 (Doug Baldwin), and 12 (Jordy Nelson).

And it just gets better from there. Week 15 pits him against the Panthers, who give up the sixth-most points to receivers, and then championship week is the Bears, who rank third. So as the weeks get more important, Jackson’s match up gets better and better and better.

Grab Jackson now, if you still can, as his ownership should continue to rise as we get closer to the Fantasy playoffs.

    I’m In On Inman

Despite a huge game from Dontrelle Inman last week, the San Diego receiver remains available in more than 80 percent of leagues. This is a guy who could serve as Phillip Rivers’ top target moving forward, coming off a game in which the QB had a perfect passer rating on his targets to Inman. Rivers went 6-for-6 for 119 yards and a TD in Week 12. Inman now also has two TDs of at least 30 yards this season (on two targets) while all other Chargers’ wideouts are 3-for-11 on passes of that distance.

That’s only the start of the good news. Inman and the Chargers will start the Fantasy playoffs against the Panthers’ secondary in Week 14, then a likely shootout versus the Raiders in Week 15, and finally the Browns in Week 16. All those defenses give up an average of at least 30 points to the wide receiver position, which makes Inman a profitable pickup for his possible owners.

Bank on Britt for Partial Playoff Success

It looks like Jared Goff is starting to figure it out and that means Kenny Britt can finally get off your Fantasy bench.

Britt, who caught five of 10 passes for 52 yards and a touchdown in Goff’s second start, is still available in nearly half of season-long leagues. That’s three straight games with at least five receptions and at least seven targets for the big receiver.

With the Rams closing out their season with divisional games in Weeks 14-16, Fantasy owners can be happy that only one of them has a good secondary — that of the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15. That’s a week to avoid Britt, but the Week 14 and 16 matchups are versus the Falcons and 49ers, who give up the ninth- and second- most points to WRs respectively, which make for solid starts for Goff’s top target.

You could do a lot worse than Britt as your WR3 as we close out the Fantasy season.

    Vikes WR is Viable Target

Adam Thielen just keeps popping up on the Fantasy radar. Even with Stefon Diggs in the lineup on Thursday night, Thielen still racked up seven catches on nine targets to go along with a team-leading 86 yards.

The speedy wideout should continue to put up similar numbers as long as Sam Bradford keeps dinking and dunking like he has all season. And the matchups for the Vikings receiver are just what a Fantasy owner could hope for. First, they face a Jaguars team that can’t buy a win in Week 14, then a Colts secondary that gives up the 14th most points to opposing receivers and finally, a Packers defense that ranks in the bottom five in league across the board.

If you’re in a sticky situation in any of those weeks, Thielen has a four-catch, 40-yard floor and a much higher ceiling, making him a viable play during the Fantasy playoffs.

    Choose Cruz for a Championship

This one is a bit of a homer pick, but Victor Cruz is bound to find the end zone at least once during Weeks 14-16.  He out-targeted Giants No. 2 receiver, Sterling Shepard, five to zero this past weekend and should continue to see more action now that he’s seemingly healthy again.

The Giants have a great matchup in Week 14 versus the Cowboys, will likely be in a shootout with the Lions in Week 15, and then face Cruz’s favorite opponent in the Eagles in Week 16. In eight career games versus Philadelphia, the New Jersey native is averaging 75 yards a game along with five total touchdowns.

Keep all of this in mind and consider adding Cruz or any of these other receivers, and you’ll likely be salsa dancing your way to a title in a few short weeks.
