Start Cowboys Dak Prescott, Cardinals Larry Fitzgerald in Week 14

Start Cowboys Dak Prescott, Cardinals Larry Fitzgerald in Week 14 premium

Woo and Boo: Start ‘Em and Sit ‘Em for Week 14

Woo – Start ‘Em

QB

Jameis Winston vs. New Orleans Saints

With multiple touchdowns in each of his last three games, Winston and the Buccaneers offense seem to be back on track. This week they will be facings a Saints defense that they took apart to begin the season. I expect to see this game be a back-and-forth affair, allowing Winston and the passing attack plenty of opportunities. He should easily return QB1 value in Week 14, making him a solid start in a playoff week.

Dak Prescott vs. Philadelphia Eagles

A similar situation has been in play for Prescott, who has been performing at a low-end QB1 level since the trade for Amari Cooper. In Week 14, he will be facing an Eagles defense that will be short-handed in the secondary and is the same unit that he had success against in Week 10 (two touchdowns in that game). The Cowboys offense is slowly becoming one that is hard to slow down. I see Prescott as a low-end QB1 this week with a 275-yard performance and a minimum of two scores.

RB

Lamar Miller vs. Indianapolis Colts

There may not be a back that is hotter than Lamar Miller. With back-to-back 100-yard games, Miller should once again be heavily involved in the Texans game plan. Also, with the activation of D’Onta Foreman, Miller will have to continue playing at a high level to maintain his usage. While the Colts have been somewhat solid against opposing running backs, I expect to see plenty of touches for Miller, leading to increased opportunities to score. He is a no-brainer play as an RB2 in any format for Week 14.

Jeff Wilson Jr. vs. Denver Broncos

One of the hot waiver wire pickups as the dust settled from an injury-riddled Week 13, Wilson is in line for a great day, especially in PPR formats. Look for the 49ers to slow the game down, giving Wilson plenty of touches both as a rusher and receiver. The Broncos have been tough against opposing runners in recent weeks, but the volume expected for Wilson makes him a viable play as a Flex in any format.

WR

Adam Humphries vs. New Orleans Saints

With five touchdowns over his last five games, it’s hard to ignore what Humphries is doing. He is a favorite target of Winston and in a game in where the Buccaneers will have to throw to stay in it, look for plenty of targets for him. The Saints have been vulnerable against slot receivers. That makes the case for Humphries to start as a WR3/Flex in PPR formats in Week 14.

Larry Fitzgerald vs. Detroit Lions

The injury to Christian Kirk really limits the options for Josh Rosen. That should lead to an uptick in usage for Fitzgerald in a matchup against the Lions that should prove to be fruitful. Although Fitzgerald hasn’t been filling up the stat sheet this season in PPR formats, he has been a threat as a touchdown scorer. Look for that to be the case here as the Cardinals take advantage of a defense that has been soft against opposing receivers. Due to the lack of options, I see Fitzgerald as a solid play in any format as a WR3 this week.

TE

Jordan Reed vs. New York Giants

You may think to yourself, “Oh, the Redskins will be starting Mark Sanchez at quarterback, so I should bench everyone now”. Well, not so fast on that. Jordan Reed makes an intriguing play in a matchup against the Giants. Sanchez and the offense will likely use short to intermediate throws to keep the chains moving, playing right into what Reed does best. He should be the most targeted receiver in this game and is an easy play as a TE1 in the wasteland that is the tight end position in Fantasy.

DEFENSE

New England Patriots @ Miami Dolphins

Divisional games for the Patriots tend to be lopsided affairs and I don’t see it any differently in the matchup against the Dolphins. Even though Ryan Tannehill has been playing well in his return as the starter, he usually struggles against this Patriots defense. I would not be shocked to see a couple of turnovers from him in this game to go along with a few sacks. This Patriots defense will be one to play as a streaming option in Week 14.

Boo – Sit ‘Em

QB

Kirk Cousins @ Seattle Seahawks

Cousins has been hot and cold in recent games and a road matchup against a hungry Seahawks defense could be trouble for him this week. I could see the Vikings go with a more balanced attack in this game, lessening the opportunities for Cousins to score. He may also be prone to turnovers in a game like this, so be wary. You’ll likely be in a position to have to start him this week during the playoffs, but if you want to swing for the fences and play someone like Josh Allen in Week 14, I wouldn’t blame you.

Carson Wentz @ Dallas Cowboys

Speaking of inconsistent play, that sums up the performance of Carson Wentz over the last month of the season. In their last matchup, Wentz put up QB1 numbers against the Cowboys (360 yards and two scores), but this defense is playing on a different level right now. I see the Eagles offense struggling in general this week, much like the Saints did in Week 13. If you have another solid option backing up Wentz, you may want to go in that direction with playoff hopes on the line.

RB

Tevin Coleman @ Green Bay Packers

Coleman has 14 yards on 14 carries over his last two games. The Falcons have lost all faith in their running attack and going on the road to play a Packers team that is breathing new life, I don’t see Coleman turning things around. The volume won’t be there to warrant a start in Week 14, so look to pivot to another option.

Duke Johnson vs. Carolina Panthers

Another player that is trending in the wrong direction, Johnson just is not seeing the touches that you’d expect he would be getting. Even in the passing game he has only three catches over his last two games. He simply is not getting it done and should be relegated to your bench until further notice.

WR

Doug Baldwin vs. Minnesota Vikings

A player that thrives on volume has been getting exactly the opposite here. You likely drafted him pretty high, but if you are still alive in your playoffs it’s probably due to shrewd roster management with other players. With Baldwin expected to be facing Xavier Rhodes in this game, it is hard to trust him in Week 14. I would dive into my depth at the position for another player this week in hopes that they can propel you to Week 15.

TE

Trey Burton vs. Los Angeles Rams

Speaking of inconsistent play, that could be the term to describe the entire 2018 season for Trey Burton. If he is not finding the end zone, he has been largely useless as a TE1 this year. With only one game over four catches, you’re basically crossing your fingers for a score each week. With the tight end position being the coin-flip that it is at the moment, you could possibly find an option on the wire (Ian Thomas) with a more solid matchup to take advantage of in Week 14.

DEFENSE

Baltimore Ravens @ Kansas City Chiefs

Another hot and cold asset. One week they are good, the next they are not. Now in Week 14 they face Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on the road. It has all the makings of a negative point day from this defense. I’d suggest to run to your waiver wire for a better play with your season on the line.
