WEEK 7 FANTASY FOOTBALL WAIVER WIRE ADDS (TUES UPDATE), PHIL MUSHNICK, ALCS & BOB COSTAS

RotoExperts Staff October 14, 2013 3:48PM EDT
Pat Mayo (@ThePME) issues his weekly injury report, he’s then joined by Gregg Sussman (@GreggSussman) at (8:15) to talk the week’s best waiver wire pickups from each position (and how much you should spend on each) & the looming Hakeem Nicks trade (9:00), and finally Tim Anderson (@TimAnderson87) gets on the line at (50:00) to break down Phil Mushnick’s ridiculous Adrian Peterson NYPost.com post (51:00), the ALCS (1:11:35), New England going for it on 4th down (1:13:45) and a reaction to Bob Costas’ Sunday night essay about the Washington Redskins potential name change (1:18:15).

Here are links to the Mushnick piece, Larry Brown’s reaction post and the Bob Costas video essay

Waiver Wire Power Rankings (with suggested FAAB Bids and time of Podcast)

RUNNING BACKS (13:57)

  1. Zac Stacy ($26)
  2. Andre “Juke” Ellington ($22)
  3. Joseph Randle ($26)
  4. Brandon Jacobs ($1)
  5. Mike Tolbert ($0)
  6. Philip Tanner ($0)

UPDATE: Lance Dunbar ($2) removed from list. Not expected to play against Eagles this week.

Zac Stacy and Andre Ellington are likely gone in competitive leagues, but are still only around 50-percent owned overall so go scan your waiver wire and find out for certain. In PPR formats, Juke Ellington probably has higher upside, but it’s hard to argue against Stacy since he’s receiving a full workload in St. Louis. Don’t waste your cash on Joseph Randle it’s just going to cost too much to get him, instead turn to Lance Dunbar as a flier for a few bucks. Dunbar was inactive Sunday night with a hamstring problem but should return next week against the Eagles. Randle looked pretty useless running the ball and in pass protection so don’t expect too much out of him, better off taking the lower cost gamble. Plus, we probably won’t know DeMarco Murray’s actual status for another few days anyway.

WIDE RECEIVERS (23:25)

  1. Keenan Allen ($17)
  2. Aaron Dobson ($13)
  3. Kris Durham ($6)
  4. Terrance Williams ($13)
  5. Rueben Randle ($9)
  6. Jarrett Boykin ($2)
  7. Brandon LaFell Sexual ($2)
  8. Austin Collie ($0)

Two big games in a row for Keenan Allen, PICK HIM UP!!! Be wary however, Chargers receivers have a crippling addcition to getting banged up. Aaron Dobson nears the summit of the list with Danny Amendola suffering, what appears to be, a severe concussion – Guy got ROCKED! Dobson has consistently generated targets regardless of the other receivers on the field, and he appears to have earned (or is earning) the trust of Tom Brady. Kris Durham obviously loses value once Calvin Johnson is back to full health, but Matt Stafford’s college roommate looks to have established himself as the front runner for the WR2 spot in Detroit, not Ryan Broyles. Which is valuable on the Lions with their proclivity to pass whenever humanly possible. As long as Miles Austin is in uniform Terrance Williams just doesn’t have great upside. If it wasn’t for the TD catch against the Redskins he would just have been some guy with two targets from Tony Romo. Absolutely worth a stash, as he’s a Top 30 WR if Austin is sidelined, but for now he’s a deep FLEX at best. Ditto for Rueben Randle, although he sees a boost if Hakeem Nicks is traded. Jarrett Boykin is intriguing if James Jones and Randall Cobb both miss time, but as he proved in Baltimore, he has hands of stone comparable to Alfred Morris. And Austin Collie… why not?

QUARTERBACKS (35:46)

  1. Chad Henne ($1)
  2. Nick Foles ($0)
  3. Mike Glennon ($0)

Chad Henne gets the Chargers in Week 7 – the second most generous defense to opposing Fantasy QBs – so he’s worth a dice roll if you’re stuck. Nick Foles is more of a stash – because he looked terrific – but Michael Vick is likely to return so temper expectations.

TIGHT ENDS (36:25)

  1. Jordan Reed ($11)
  2. Tim Wright ($1)
  3. Jeff Cumberland ($1)
  4. Joseph (Not Christian) Fauria ($0)
  5. Lance Kendricks ($0)

Jordan Reed is above this pack by a substantial margin. He looks like he could be an answer to your TE needs for the rest of the season, or just a Jimmy Graham fill-in if he misses time. Reed meshed well with Robert Griffin III (who looked much, much healthier btw) and possesses incredible upside in that offense. He’s no lock, but if you’re hurting, give Reed a shot. In deeper PPR leagues, my super-sleeper of the week Tim Wright will continue to generate solid performances. Mike Glennon really stares him down. More so Sunday without Mike Williams around to soak looks away. Jeff Cumberland… meh. And Joseph Fauria and Lance Kendricks are solely touchdown plays, but they do keep getting them so they’re “put on your watch-list” worthy. I do think it’s hilarious, however, that Kendricks is more valuable than Jared Cook at this point. They’re not super-available, but Charles “Dice” Clay and Garrett Graham fall right behind Reed in the rankings and may have been dropped because of the bye/awful game.

DEFENSES TO STREAM (43:50)

  1. Miami vs BUF ($5)
  2. New England at NYJ ($3)
  3. Tennessee vs SF ($0)
  4. San Diego ($0)
  5. Green Bay ($0)

With Thad Lewis likely out for Buffalo, Miami will be able to store enough turnovers to last them the winter. New England is going to terrorize Geno Smith aka #GENOPICKS all game, just like the Steelers were able to do. The Niners haven’t been great on the road and now they’re traveling west to east against a fairly stout Titans defense. San Diego is playing Jacksonville, but beware Chad Henne exposing its awful pass defense. And, of course, the Packers if you’re out of options. They should be able to grab a #WEEDENPICK or two.

Hey Pat I play IDP and I’d like to known what happen to Harrison Smith for the Vikings. All I could find out is it had something to do with a foot injury ? I had him in my line up and moments before the game starts his predicted points go to zero, luckily I was paying attention and was able to swap him out for another player.

Honestly, I’m not an IDP guy, so I didn’t see it either.

Fortunately, we have the IDP master at RotoExperts, Dan Dobish.

I’m in a ten team PPR. Should I drop G Jennings for Ellington or Douglas ? K Allen is still out there as well.
    My team is
    RG3
    Nelson
    Gordon
    T smith
    P Harvin
    D Moore
    J Charles
    T Rich
    K moreno
    Frank Gore
    J Cameron
    H Miller
    Chiefs D

    Thanks

You can make the move for Ellington.

It’s not like you’re playing either one anyway. May as well grab a RB with some genuine upside. Much tougher than finding a new WR.

This is the first time I’ve caught your show, and as someone living in southern California, home of incredible aggressive, angry radio, I think your show is fantastic. My only argument is against the characterization of Costas’ halftime essay as a “rant.” We’ve had a lot of overblown rhetoric around the issue, and Costas was the first I’ve heard in a while present a calm, reasoned argument. Passionately against the name Redskins, but still calm, respectful, and reasoned. I damn near cheered when it was over.
By the way – some of us are as confused as you are about the validity of Columbus Day. Makes no sense to me.

    • Patrick Mayo, Staff Writer October 14, 2013 at 9:27 pm -

Good point. ‘Rant’ was probably a tad strong. ‘Commentary’ probably would have sufficed. Although, it was rather extravagant, in a very old-timey Bob Costas sort of way.

And am glad we weren’t the only ones confused about why Columbus Day is a thing. I think it’s just a super sneaky way of the US trying to steal some of Canadian Thanksgiving’s thunder!
